The wait wasn't long before Bollywood superstar playback singer Sonu Niigaam took to the stage. He is the voice to many of the blockbuster chart topping songs mostly sung for the A list heroes like Shah Rukh Khan and many of the leading actors.
The show started with a noteworthy introduction and then went on to the opening act by a fellow desi songstress. Soon the wait was over and Sonu sang the opening stanza hidden from the audience.
Sonu Niigaam broke into a medley of his hits from Fanaa, KANK, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, Main Hoon Na and many others. That got the audience going.
Every song seemed an effortless performance for him and he said that it was hard work to sing carefree on stage.
Sonu acknowledged the local artists who were present and got Bathiya of B n S fame to sing along with him. The concert was live and for once it felt like it was money’s worth to see an artist of his magnitude perform for more than two and half hours nonstop.
It was interesting to see him interact with the audience. Niigaam spoke about his struggle to break into the industry and said that since he started off with a sad song in his career, he had a phase where he continuously sang only sad songs before getting an opportunity to sing a cheery one. Then he took us through his song graph to give an idea of the old time songs before proceeding to his all time favourites.
His band was simply outstanding and it made up of the best of Indian bass and electrical guitarists, not forgetting the outstanding percussionists.
He is undoubtedly a talented and capable singer given his vocal range and ability to sing in many languages. He recently set a record for singing a spng 54 different voices and it was amazing to see him sing the same song to a live audience. It was an unforgettable concert and thanks goes to brainchild of Star Events Management Sudharma Nettikumara for organizing such a mind blowing concert.
