SriLankan Airlines director board member Rakitha Jayawardena will function as SriLankan CEO until a new CEO is appointed, sources at SriLankan said.
His appointment comes in the wake of CEO Kapila Chandrasena tendering his resignation on Monday.
Jayawardena is said to be a former SriLankan employee in the 1980s and a respected travel sector personality.
The return of former SriLankan CEO Manoj Gunawardena is strongly speculated to fill the seat vacated by Chandrasena.
However, sources at SriLankan said the post is likely to be advertised, following the due procedure.
