interpol help sought

By Supun Dias

Police are seeking help from Interpol to find the cause of the incident in which 11 Sri Lankans went missing after the boat that was illegally taking them to Australia capsized, said police media spokesman DIG Nimal Mediwaka.

DIG Mediwaka said that the, according to the information received about the incident, twenty seven persons had been rescued by two cargo ships that were passing by. It will take nearly two days to gather the information from Interpol. The police will also probe into where the immigrants came from, he said.

The use of outdated trawlers causes such incidents and so far no action has been taken to prevent such illegal journeys, he said.
