Vaas wants to retire from Test cricket- Asantha

Sri Lanka’s chief cricket selector Asantha deMel, in an interview with Daily Mirror online, said that veteran pace bowler Chaminda Vaas had indicated that he wants to retire from Test cricket and focus mainly on one day cricket and it was for that reason that he was not selected for the first Test against Pakistan.

“Chaminda Vaas spoke to me and he said he actually wants to retire from Test cricket and concentrate mostly on one day cricket and in the last few series that he played in the Test matches he hasn’t been very much amongst the wickets…For these matches in Sri Lanka we were looking at fast bowlers who can get us wickets in the top and Chaminda in the last few Tests hasn’t done that well and also the fact that he is basically trying to concentrate more on one day cricket...that is the main reason that we have not selected him,” deMel told Daily Mirror online.

Realy I want to send Vass out from the team, thoug we say "Vaas wants to retire from Test cricket"

 Posted By: Asantha
HAHAHA.. Nice one asantha.. Nice way to treat a player like vass. He is the best fast bowler sri lanka ever produce and he is the best opening bowler we got. I think MUBARAK will not get any chance if ASANTHA apply this theory to all. Because mubarak never ever scored runs in a match. May be he had scored some runs when he played with ASANTHA( think that's why asantha is so loving him.) NOT like that MUBARAK( your loving player), vass produce things when team need it. He is a good performer. Sri Lanka team should rais to these kind of things. Same thing happen to Athapathu, Arjuna,Aravinda, Gurusinghe, Mahanama, Upul Chandana ,Darmasena. They were dropped when they reach to their end of cricket. I think this happens due to the politics, because each and every player i mention earlier was playing at their best. I don't know why that this so called ASANTHA is in cricket board. He should be kicked off from it. Vass don't worry brother. We all are with you. We all remember how you serve your country. And we will never forget that like these peoples.

Vaasy is a class act. I will truly miss this guy; probably best fast bowler produced by our country. He and Murali are the only two bowlers brought name and fame to this country by defeating teams abroad. I still remember his 8 wicket haul againt WI at SSC. Super bowler and wish him and his family all the very the best in life.........Fan from Canada

NONESENSE!!!!!! In any other country the chief selector would have been sent home for retaining two consistantly failing batsmen in the the T20 final. These are lame excuses to justify poor team selections, which mainly satisfy their personal whims and fancies. Can someone file a FR case please..............

Vassy has been one of our best Bowlers who put Sri Lanka in the Cricketing Map. Sri Lanka should give him a right royal Farewell. He was World Class and batsmen from cricketing countries feared him, not for his speed but for his accuracy.... Enjoy your well deserved retirement Chaminda

 Posted By: Dushantha C. Kurera
Retirement should be announced by the player and not by the selector. It appears Vass is going for forced retirement. Lets see whether he is selected for the shorter version of the game, as de mel plays politics on sport.

Sad to hear that, but that's fair enough! By the way, what is this 'bankrupt administrator" doing in the BCCSL? He should be behind bars like Ceylinco chief's for wrong doings..at Petrolium Corp. Especially for playing pandu with public money!

 Posted By: sam
First they dropped him from the twenty20 series and one dayers saying he needed to focus more on Tests and now they are singing a different note....someone on that selection committee has it in for Vaasi.Such a shame to treat a world cup hero like this. Except Murali no other Sri Lankan bowler can hold a candle to Chaminda Vaas.

You made players to force retire. Why don't you retire from cricket administration. Your decision never been right in the recent past. Without putting more players in trouble please quit as a gentleman. Sorry to say this you have done more damagers to the country's economy and cricket. Government should stepping to resolve this sport administration issues. These people will never step-down due to greediness for money

Cricket in sri lanka will be much better without Asantha de Mel.Because of him we lost many of our great cricketers. When will we see the end of Asantha de Mel's involvement in sri lankan cricket?

 Posted By: WATA
Actually Asantha wanted Vass to retire. Poor Vass dosent have any political support. Shame on you Asantha......................

 Posted By: bran
No need any comments ,please give him a one match to retire

 Posted By: Nis
Hey.. Mel let Vass announce that we dont want to hear it from you. The damage you have done so far is more than enough....

First of all Howmany Wickets has Asantha Demel taken and Howmany has Vass taken. What we know is vass is a Humble guy comes from a ordinary Catholic family and we all know Asanthas background and links not only with Cricket but Fuel too.So let vass do the talking and if he is under contract still he has the right to make a comment on his retirment than Asantha.

First of all Howmany Wickets has Asantha Demel taken and Howmany has Vass taken. What we know is vass is a Humble guy comes froma ordinary Cathlic family and we all know Asanthas backround and links not only with Cricket but Fuel too.So let vass do the talking and if he is under contract still he has the right to make a comment on his retirment than Asantha. We all know at Asgiriya few years ago jayasuriya was forced to retire had to cut a cake and he came back and still he scores though he is in his 40s. people cant hide anybodys talents and others cannot make predictions on Vass ability to bowl.He has proved ..... Asantha doesnt have a right to do and he is a guy who lost his image for taking part in Shammed dealings to mislead the public. So he shold not be in this position first of all.He was removed by the Highest Law inforcement office which is the Supreme COurt in this Democratic COuntry for dodgy delaings.he mislad the tax payers. So he does not have the right and authourity first off all to make decisions on Cricketers Carears. We as citizenz and taxpayers should take a decision on Asantha Demel whether he could be the Chairmen of Selectorscos he was shamefully removed from a public office for corruption at CPC and the deal he struck is still making us the taxpayers horrible results in our day to day lives.

sri lanka team will loss all matches becouse of this asantha de mel.sorry for lankan team.

 Posted By: nishan
now you are screwing our best bowler.... if I can I would slap you...

 Posted By: erantha
This fellow De Mel should be behind bars for cheating the country for billions because of the hedging deal. He is walking free and getting useless cricketers like Mubarak from his old school Royal. He should be made to run naked on the road.

 Posted By: Ranil Perera
What part did Kumar Sangakara play in this? Is he a wolf wearing sheep's clothing? We need to find out. Remember that Sanga and Mahela rebeled when Vass was made the vice captain? But their is someone upstairs and he will take decisions on theses acts of Sanga and De Mel. Who knows one day when Sanga is struggling like Ricky Pointing Vass may be the chief selector. Sanga is very selfish, that is why like Aravinda it took a long time to be a a match winner. Where as people like Arjuna, Mahela were selfless.

Let the player decide on the time of his retirement, and, if good enough let him play until he is good no more. Simple elimentary thinking Mr Chairman of Selectors.

 Posted By: Labby
Actualy we are realy worry about putting this type of stupid person as a national selector we need a person as a selector like Mr Gothabaya Rajapakshe,Sarath Fonseka....etc with good understanding about cricket.

 Posted By: DILHA
Asantha was imported to Royal from Isipathana just for a couple of years. So please don't drag the name of the great school into this. His favours, if any to the said player must be due to some other reasons.

 Posted By: Shyama B
Well it is a trend in Sri Lanka that the selectors are very average cricketers who never achieved anything when they played. When given the chance they make sure the guys who do perform are taken out. Aravinda, Guru, Mahanama, Hashan, Marvan, all had to give up frustrated with the treatment received at the hands of some losers. So Vass is no exception.

 Posted By: upul
It is Asantha who should have been dropped,in the first place,

 Posted By: Ganga Kariawasam
The new definition of Chief selector. "The man who selects the team to suit his whims and fancies while ensuring the worst players are in the team to make the defeat certain.

 Posted By: Ara Soysa
King and the family ruining the talent in cricket.

 Posted By: Superb from Sydney
100% agree with Ganesh. It is sad to see Sanga is heading to a wrong path. We love sanga and we don't want to see he is being hated by fans.

 Posted By: chatura
Asantha de Mel is like a cancer! Destroying cricket in SL. He did the same with oil!

 Posted By: Saman
Asantha de Mel's interview was full of lies.Chaminda has denied (Cricinfo) having ever discussed about his retirement from Test Cricket. He is the leading wicket taker among the Fast Bowlers from Sri Lanka,a true gentleman,

 Posted By: Vijay Vijeyakumaar
Sanga, seems you are not good in team selection.

 Posted By: Rikaz
Is Mubarak better than Vass????....Mr De mel its you and Mubarak who should retire.

 Posted By: raja
nothing worse than a lier and a coward. You are a disgrace to all Sri Lankans.

 Posted By: Vishwa
Asantha,you are a crack minder.

 Posted By: krishna
Vaas has picked up more than 350 wickets and is ranked even today 9th in the ICC test bowlers ranking list. His contribution to Sri Lankan Cricket is enormous. It is a shame that he is not selected for the current test series with Pakistan. This whole matter needs to be looked into by the President.

 Posted By: R. Ratnam
This man is a real joker. What is his education level to become the chairman of cricket???

 Posted By: Adam
when will this "Corrupt Official" removed ?

 Posted By: rkalum
God help! Sri Lankan cricket, he messed up whilst he was in charge at the CPC, and now cricket. Cant we find any better person to run cricket at least!

 Posted By: Cricket loving nation
It seems that " Asantha wants to retire as the chairman of the Selectors". As per his above statement player is the one who decides whether to play or not. So what the selectors do ???
