Sri Lanka’s chief cricket selector Asantha deMel, in an interview with Daily Mirror online, said that veteran pace bowler Chaminda Vaas had indicated that he wants to retire from Test cricket and focus mainly on one day cricket and it was for that reason that he was not selected for the first Test against Pakistan.
“Chaminda Vaas spoke to me and he said he actually wants to retire from Test cricket and concentrate mostly on one day cricket and in the last few series that he played in the Test matches he hasn’t been very much amongst the wickets…For these matches in Sri Lanka we were looking at fast bowlers who can get us wickets in the top and Chaminda in the last few Tests hasn’t done that well and also the fact that he is basically trying to concentrate more on one day cricket...that is the main reason that we have not selected him,” deMel told Daily Mirror online.
