Lanka seeks international help to capture KP

Having wiped out the LTTE leadership from northern Sri Lanka, the government is now seeking international help to nab its fugitive leader K Padmanathan, believed to be active in carrying out the Tigers' operations overseas.

The Sri Lankan government has forwarded details to other countries seeking arrest of Padmanathan, Foreign Minister, Mr Rohitha Bogollagama said.

“In terms of world opinion and also in relation to how we could counter LTTE terror network forces, there are still some elements at large,” Mr Bogollagama said.

“That is why we have gone very much public in terms of seeking of the arrest of K Padmanathan. That is important. That is one such person,” he told a TV channel.

Mr Bogollagama said the government might have countered terrorism comprehensively by defeating the LTTE, “but a lot more has to be done”.

The Tamilnet reported on January 30 this year that LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran had appointed Pathmanathan, “a high profile representative of the movement,” as its international face.

“Pathmanathan will be representing the movement in any further peace initiatives and will be the primary point of contact for engaging with the international community,” a letter sent to various international actors by the LTTE's department of internatio nal relations, said. – PTI

What crime has this man committed for seeking international help to capture him? There is certainly a witch hunt to bring all Tamils to heel. Deepa

This is interesting. When this government was charged for its genocidal war and the indiscriminate killing of 20,000 Tamil civilians they took cover behind a self-congratulatory resolution and escaped with the help of some 25 or so countries. They have put a ban on the media and any other concerned people to visit the concentration camps where the IDPs are interned. Now they after a man they claim is doing something sinister against sri Lanka. This government has much to answer. But it is arrogant and refuses to show common courtesy to the world community. There must be a lot for this government to hide. We now see the dark side of this government.

With access to all the millions amassed, I think the Tamil Diaspora are probably after him as well.

If the criminal KP is no longer a sri lanka citizen, can sri Lanka arrest him and try him in Sri Lanka? I read KP also has got financial/property links with tigers in Toronto. Can they also arrest Candian citizens? They are known as community leaders in Canada!

Every one is working hard to punish criminals. SL wants KP whereas the western world wants to punish war criminals hiding in SL including members from mafia family. Hope that all criminals get punished without any favourism

We should have a War Crimes Tribunal first and then look for KP's & JP's.

Not only the government looking for international help to capture KP, the point is is the srilankan government following the international rouls low to help the poor Tamils?

Why fear, if LTTE is militarily defeated and all top military heads killed and without prabakaran LTTE wants to be a political party. With all the crimes comitted Karuna was pardoned, why not the new LTTE

 Posted By: ash
AS long as KP holds the stings of the purse of LTTE money, there will be powerful politicians in the West who will protect him due to "Humanitarian concerns"
