Sometime back University of Kelaniya clashed with the so called villagers and Cyril Matthew was active in this area. Then again towards late 1980s and Ranil was at Gonawela. Just look around whether it is the same today. University students are a sample of our society who are a little better than an average folk. This better sample is spolit (may be divided and ruled) by external parties for their benefit.

Free education is good. But a few are destrupting the education of everyone. If they don't want to study get rid of them and let proper students study. Be firm

I am agree with sarah. Punishments should be given to those foolish students. But Sri Lankans should ignore and hate such jelous talks as stops the free education and etc. I believe Shanthi and spark also talk like this because they havent got the chance to enter the state universities. Specilly as public we have to consider the students issues, because none is finding out issues with students and universities in any occasion.

Hey !!! that is the out come , it's because of free education . students should meet their education by paying their own money , then they will realize the out come , other wise situation like this will continue, GOSL please look in to this !!! Thanks !!

Great, keep it closed and transfer this tax money to private universities. Anyway government universities have turned out third rate hecks and slurp dogs like GL Pieris, sarath amunugama and wimal weerawansa

The best solution would be to close it down PERMANENTLY. At least that will stop more and more hooligans coming in to the society.

Kelaniya is worst university in Sri Lanka.There was fighting between students in this campus almost everyday.They are there to fight and not to study.They are getting mahapola schoolarships to learn.I think SL should seriously think to stop mahapola those thugs in it.Government should completly closed this butcher house and treat them as terrorist.

Students must be students, not rioters, thugs and etc. They should value the free education that they get and do their job which is studying and be a useful citizen to the country. Tax payers money should not be utilized to hit the tax payers!!!

There will be mistakes. But dont blame free education. Students at International schools are behave so unethical than this.. didnt u seen any emails of their partys?

Please try to understand why this has happen and its root without blaming to one party, then u might realized the following mathematical formul would be applicable;

GOSL,Please stop the free education now. Let every citizen of this country pay for what they learn in the UNIVERSITY. This is the end result when things are given free. Like the GOSL eradicated LTTE, get these thugs out of our society. It is high time.

why all are blaming to university students. There is a political involvement also. A one of incident has become a critical issue because of a king who protecting a kelaniya area. please look at it your open mind.

All the people who are blaming to the Kelaniya Uni students should find out the truth before they blame.

to Shanthi & Spark: Just because u didn't get into a state university don't think others also shouldn't have the right for free education. This particular problem is due to students + villagers both of bad upbringing.

first of all did you guys bother to get a comment from the students?...didnt they teach you to get both sides at journalism school?...

I think free education is gotta be as it was coz it has given opportunity for those who re underprivileged but the thing is if those who can pay for education re still gettin it thats also not a fair too so there gotta be a mechanism to have free education for those u really need it on the other hand i know personally as a university student there are lot of students who get mahapola to fuel their vehicles so its true that tax payers money is not used as effiently as it should be on the other hand only 3% or 5 % getting chance to enter state university so theres a doubt that actually these 3 or 5% getting the education actually they deserve by paying money
