Six trawlers gutted in Tangalle

Six multi-day fishing trawlers were gutted and several others extensively damaged by fire in Kudawella fishery habour in Tangalle. The fire had broken out in one of the trawlers and had spread to others. The cause of fire was yet to be established.

The damage is estimated to be more than Rs. 120 million, officials said.

The power supply in the fishery harbour had also been damaged and the Ceylon Electricity Board engineers were attending to repairs, they said.
