A sea cucumber dealer was shot dead when two unidentified men on a motorcycle that was without a number plate fired at them today in the Nahavilluwa area of Puttalam, the police said.

Police Headquarters said the victim who was returning home from the mosque after prayers succumbed to his injuries before admission to the Puttalam Hospital. The victim was identified as Mohammed Nassar (32), a resident of Nahavilluwa, Puttalam. The reason behind the incident was believed to be a long standing animosity over a previous dispute.
