Heavy rain and the resulting floods in Batticaloa and Ampara caused havoc in these areas with many roads being inundated and residences being flooded. The pictures show several areas in Batticaloa and Ampara affected by flood and rain. DM Correspondents

    yes, we should have built all of them on pillars, floating on air... because you know, the ground can shift and erode.

    Roads need not be built on pillars. The solution to have proper drains or canals to move the water. This is missing on most Sri Lanka roads.
