I am a Sri Lankan Muslim. If someone asks me what my mother tounge is i am proud to say its "Sinhalese". Why all this effort to make a muslim feel different. "Halal" means in layman terms "allowed to consume/do". If anyone doesnt need it, he shouldnt use it. However understand it is not only in Sri Lanka. Travel the world to see how many countries have it specified on their food packaging. Be it US / UK / rest of Europe and even CHINA for that matter. What additional cost is anyone incurring for this compared to what our political leaders are robbing us off on a day to day basis with no religion or race in mind? Imagine this kind of pressure being applied on them. the results might be surprising.....

Thank you Mr Lovesri...this is a great idea. I strongly believe that most of the Buddhists are against these unnecessary issues. Just to explain those who don't know, halal certification is given for "Muslims to identify easily which is permissable to eat without any further investigations". Other than meat items it ensures that no ingredients which are not permitted in Islam is included in that product...thats all. As far as I know, Buddhist can eat anything wheather it contains permitted items in Islam or not. Then what is the issue. Another issue is that they are concern about items which are devoted to other gods cannot be devoted to Lord Buddha. If so, this applies only to meat items which in Islam is slaughtered with Allah's name. As far as I know meat items are not devoted to Lord Buddha then what is the issue? So people, please think and investigate to youself before listening and accepting some of these extremist fraction of the society.

I don't think so, if not you are not a true Buddhist. Buddhism never preach hatred among other religions. All these years we were with our sinhalese monks and brothers they never NEVER NEVER preach anything as such. I believe there is another team behind this move and their agenda is totally different. we as Sri Lanakans should never fall on to this trap. this is what had happened in so many other countries in the word.

Dear Muslim friends tolerate as you do in the month of fasting and explain misconceptions about halal to at least 10 Buddhist friends. I' sure every Muslim might have minimum 10 Buddhist friend.

good one. some people ask the question why halal now, didn't Muslims eat and drink before the halal certificate came into being. Simple answer is why not question the vegetarians why they need a 100% vegetarian certificate.

As a Muslim I love Buddhist culture and behavior and the freedom they have given us Muslims in a Buddhist country. I openly say the ban is only on the halal certificate but why target entire Muslims community are we asking for a separate land for us to live? No we want to live with our friendly Buddhist neighbors..... If there is a problem with the halal certificate please talk to the people involved but don't treat normal people saying to close the shop and breaking down mosques... Finally I don't want to hide my name because I am Muslim. We Muslims Love Lord Buddha.......
