Rtd. Major General Kamal Gunarathne presented his memoirs titled ‘The Road to Naandikadal’ to former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and other distinguished guests at a book launching ceremony held at the P.De.S. Kularathne Hall at Ananda College yesterday.
The book is said to contain a detailed account of the last stages of the war in which Gunarathne led his division
defeating the Liberation of Tamil Tigers Eelam (LTTE). Former Secretary of Defense Gotabaya Rajapaksa was also present at the book launching ceremony.
Ven. Itthapane Dammalankara was presented the first copy of the book while the former President was presented the second.
Prof. Hiran Amarasekara, Prof. Rohan Gunarathne and Additional Solicitor General, President's Counsel Yasantha Kodagoda were also present at the ceremony. Major General Gunarathne retired from active military service last week.
The book is the third work of literature on the war and second on the part of the victorious military. Pix by Lahiru Harshana
