Now in it’s third year in a row, Asian Tree of the Year, reinforces its message of raising  awareness about the necessity of positive action to preserve our biodiversity heritage across Asia.

Organised by The Carbon Consulting Company (CCC) as its commitment in promoting initiatives in environmental sustainability, the contest seeks to identify, catalog, and publicise tress with special meaning to individuals or communities. The contest encompasses five countries across Asia including Sri Lanka, Malaysia, India, Nepal, and Singapore, and is an affiliated contest to the European Tree of the Year contest, hosted in Brussels every year. Both contests are part of the Global movement on every continent titled ‘Tree of the Year’.

The contest is made possible by the sponsorship of Eswaran Brothers Exports (Pvt.) Ltd and Rainco (Pvt.) Ltd who have supported the contest over the past three years. Organiser of the contest and the CEO of CCC, Sanith de Silva Wijeyeratne said: “Asian Tree of the Year is an initiative that is dear to the CCC team. We are passionate about empowering the community to get the conversation started on the importance on preserving our environment. Everyone is encouraged to participate in the contest and to show their skills in photography and story-telling. This is only possible with the support from corporates such as Eswaran Brothers Exports and Rainco, who have a vision of a greener future for this country.”

Eswaran Brothers Exports Deputy Chairman Subramaniam Eassuwaren stated: “Protecting the environment is of vital importance in Sri Lanka. Eswaran Brothers is passionate about raising awareness about protecting the environment, and sharing stories of wonderful trees to create more interest and understanding in people about the environment. We are delighted to be partnering with the Carbon Consulting Company on their initiative to promote conservation of trees through the Asian Tree of the Year competition.”

Adding to this is, Rainco Managing Director Fazal Fausz said: “Rainco is committed to a more sustainable future through environmental initiatives like Asian Tree of the Year. We are highly motivated to be engaged in this bold initiative once more to get the community mobilised in bringing greater awareness of our much treasured biodiversity. We look forward to a successful competition and our continued partnership with CCC on initiatives like these in the future.”
