Toastmasters Int’l Joint Mid-Year Conference today

The Divisions C, F and J of District 82, Toastmasters International will be hosting its Joint Mid-Year Conference brining to gather Toastmasters from more than 40 Toastmasters Clubs to witness the much-anticipated divisional speech contests in the categories of humorous and evaluation speeches as well as a day of fellowship and networking.
Toastmasters International is a world leader in communication and leadership development. Its membership is more than 332,000 members. Members improve their speaking and leadership skills by attending one of the 15,400 clubs in 135 countries that make up our global network of meeting locations.
The District 82 of Toastmasters International covers over 150 clubs located in Sri Lanka and in Tamil Nadu, India. This year three of the five divisions of District 82 that are based in Sri Lanka have come together to host a joint conference. This event is set to bring together Toastmasters from cooperate clubs representing some of the biggest corporates in the island as well as from many community clubs representing many parts of the island.
Commenting on the upcoming event, Distinguished Toastmaster Sastharam Ravendran said, “Somehow an average man never spends too much time in introspection, something that I have realized is key to continuous self-development. We fail to constantly try and reinvent ourselves and eventually we feel exhausted and demotivated to do something. At such a juncture, we probably will add oil to the burning fire by comparing ourselves with friends, family members and sometimes even mere acquaintances and beat ourselves over it.
Of course this is a natural way in which our minds react to the growing tension within ourselves, we start comparing and then we regret it. What I have realized in the course of all this learning in Toastmasters is to never compare ourselves with anyone else. At any point in time, I think that is baseless. The only comparison that we ought to do, or rather the only comparison that is healthy and will help us better ourselves is comparison of ourselves with us in the past.”
Joint Mid-Year Conference of Divisions C, F and J of District 82 will be hosted on October 31, 2015 from 8:00 a.m. onwards at The Dimo 800 Mercedes-Benz Centre. For registrations contact Hasfan on 0770770707.
