The CIMA qualification is integrated to those of the rest of the world and that is what helps the CIMA members and students working overseas to be recognised, said Policy Planning and Economic Affairs Deputy Minister Dr. Harsha De Silva as he graced the recently concluded CIMA biannual convocation.
Speaking on De Silva said, “CIMA Sri Lanka has integrated with CIMA global and now the graduates who pass out today are able to get degrees from Australia, the UK or perhaps the USA because you have integrated your qualification to the qualifications of the rest of the world.
CIMA is recognised across the world. Thousands of CIMA members work and are recognised overseas. That must not be the case only for CIMA; it must be for everyone else. How come CIMA is an advantage and not others? They can’t integrate their qualifications with other nations.
But beyond educational qualifications, we, as a country, must be able to integrate our country with the rest of the world. So, that is the country your government is trying to create for you and that is the country you hopefully will make use of as a platform to not only leverage your qualification to individually benefit but to do what you have to do to benefit society at large.”
Guest of honour, CIMA Sri Lanka Chairman Vipula Gunatilake called on the graduates to be up-to-date by enhancing skills specially in the field of IT and technology that would help them be on par with the rapid changes taking place in the world and also advised them to  uphold high ethical stands in their future endeavours.
The convocation celebrated the success of 483 students. CIMA Sri Lanka is proud to have students who consistently excel throughout their CIMA career and stand out against the many who sit exams worldwide.
Rusiru Lasith Samayawardhena, a student of Royal College Colombo, was recognized for securing the world prize in Financial Management. The two lecturers who played a crucial role in coaching him for the exam - Azad Hye and Nufail Naleem of Achiever’s Lanka Business School - were too acknowledged during the function.
In addition, there were 15 other Sri Lankan prize winners who were recognised for their outstanding performance at the examinations. An interesting twist to the convocation was the performances during the function; CIMA students from different CIMA colleges showcased their talent entertaining the audience.
With students and members across various industries in both the public and private sectors, the first batch of senior officers from our armed forces, who successfully completed the CIMA Gateway Exam, were recognised. The officers from the Army were Colonel Marlon C. De Zoysa and Brigadier M.S.C. Perera and from the Navy, Lieutenant Commander B.D. Thushara Priyanka Perera, Commander Y.A. Sanjeewa and Commander V.M. Senevirathne.
