CCC Solutions to hold professional networking to empower Central Province SMEs

CCC Solutions, a fully-owned subsidiary of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC), together with CA Sri Lanka and German Development Corporation (GIZ) will hold a one-day programme in Kandy to help empower small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the Central Province.

The programme to be held on August 24 at Hotel Suisse will help SMEs to find new business opportunities by taking part in a ‘capacity development and partnership’ event and also enhance their knowledge in business management, such as, knowledge on best business practices, awareness on technology-based solutions, knowledge on marketing and value chain opportunities, access to finance and the regulatory support for SMEs.

Over 100 SMEs are expected to attend this event, which will bring together banks and financial institutions, supply and value chain entities and leading technology solution providers to collaborate and enter into various business collaborations. SMEs from the East and Uva Provinces will also take part in this programme.

GIZ believes that in the efforts to empower SMEs, connecting SMEs to the service providers and their services, creating awareness and building links and relationships are of paramount importance. It is expected that through such linkages, value chains will be further strengthened and service providers (and SMPs) will better understand and cater to specific needs of SMEs.

One of the challenging issue SMEs face is lack of knowledge on proper financial record keeping and reporting, which require professional guidance. CA Sri Lanka, the apex body spearheading inclusive financial reporting, would bring together their expertise as well as over 20 practicing members (small and medium professionals) of CA to link with SMEs in the Kandy District. Microsoft Sri Lanka will introduce to the SMEs affordable technology-based business solutions that can strengthen them to reap benefits.

Hatton National Bank, National Savings Bank, Sampath Bank and Seylan Bank will elaborate on how to access to finance and will engage with SMEs to find out financial solutions for the needy SMEs.

The programme is one of the initiatives of the key deliverables promised at the first-ever SME empowerment programme (National Forum on Small and Medium Enterprise Empowerment 2014), which was held last year by the CCC. This is the first of the series of programmes where CCC Solutions expects to conduct in partner with CA Sri Lanka (the institute of Chartered accountants), GIZ and Microsoft Lanka in other six regions.

The Sri Lankan-German SME Development Programme, implemented by GIZ in cooperation with the Ministry of Finance, Sri Lanka, aims to support a cohesive policy framework enabling SMEs to grow in an inclusive and eco-friendly manner. Through a wide range of technical assistance, it helps enhance competitiveness of SMEs through technology transfer, innovation and improved access to finance. The programme is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) of Germany.
