A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed on Sunday for Sri Lanka’s first cable car project, which is to be set up in Nuwara Eliya, targeting both local and foreign tourists.
The MoU was entered into between the Nuwara Eliya Municipal Council and the project company Outdoor Engineering Lanka (Pvt.) Ltd and its foreign partner Doppelmayr Cable Car GmbH, a company headquartered in Wolfurt, Austria, in the presence of Plantations Industries Minister Navin Dissanayake.
The US $ 50 million project, to be built on 21 towers, will link Nuwara Eliya Race Course and Gregory Lake with the Nanu Oya railway station and Single Tree Hill.
The project will consist of 86 cable cars, each with the capacity for 10 persons and the first phase of the project will install 43 cars.
