Sampath Bank Managing Director Aravinda Perera receiving the ‘BCCS 2015’ award from Speaker of Parliament Karu Jayasuriya in the presence of CCC Chairman Samantha Ranatunga
As the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) is calling applications to recognize and reward the ‘Best Corporate Citizen Sustainability champions of the year 2016’, its previous year’s winner Sampath Bank says the victory is placed among the bank’s most prestigious and respected achievements.
“The recognition received by an awarding body of such magnitude is an honour to Sampath Bank and a highly sought-after accomplishment in Sri Lanka’s corporate industry. This victory is placed among our most prestigious and respected achievements,” said Sampath Bank PLC Senior Deputy General Manager Consumer Banking Tharaka Ranwala.
He also said the award is a testament to Sampath’s efforts in contributing towards a firm triple bottom line, which focuses on environmental, social and economic sustainability.
The CCC, which is conducting Best Corporate Citizen Sustainability Award 2016, an annual competition for the 13th consecutive year, aims to encourage the corporate sector to adopt best sustainability practices. It focuses on all stakeholders of the company ranging from employees, customers, community, shareholders, government and the environment.
“Preserving the communities and environment we operate in is vital for any responsible organisation. Therefore, sustainability across all business spheres is the foundation of a successful business,” Ranwala further said. Sampath Bank was the previous year’s winner of the award.
The CCC, which is now in the process of calling applications for this year’s competition, has seen a surge in demand by the local corporates to compete in the upcoming event.
Organisers have lined up a galaxy of awards to recognize the best performers in corporate sustainability initiatives in Sri Lanka, ranging from Best Corporate Citizen Sustainability Award 2016, top ten corporates, category awards, sector awards to top performers for key sectors of the economy and Best Presented Application.
In addition to the main awards, the competition will also recognize exemplary projects carried out by companies relating to planet and people such as education, community services, etc. The award giving ceremony will take place on November 24, 2016 in Colombo. The closing date for applications would be October 7, 2016.
