The Mahanayake Thera of the Malwatte Chapter, the Most Venerable Thibbotuwawe Sri Sumangala Thera called on all political parties in Parliament to stop playing political games such as bringing in no confidence motions.

He did so when he met Plantation Industries Minister and Leader of the House Lakshman Kiriella yesterday.

He said he had hoped that both the president and the prime minister would have the courage to unite all the political parties for the sake of the country and launch people’s friendly programmes.

He also called for the immediate enactment of the 20th Amendment and a general election after that.

Mr. Kiriella said in response that Parliament was in disarray because of the sabotage attempts of some Opposition members.

He said that the UNP was not opposed to the 20th. Amendment but was against increasing the number of MPs. (J. A. L. Jayasinghe and L. B Senaratne)

Its very encouraging note by Ven.Sumangala thero. My/Our request from all three chapters to unite and be behind the president and Prime minister, if they are doing good, praise and encourage, if not advice them on good governance.

Please refrain from issuing political statements to the country. Look after the religious affairs and that is what is expected from you.. When priests involve in political statements country go from bad to worse.

I feel Mahanayaka thera is taking sides. The priests should attend to preaching dhamma and should not get involved in politics. It will be nice to hear a good word about MR.from you,as he deserves it.,more than any other person.

Fully agree. This is UNGRATEFULNESS of the highest order. UNP helped MY3 to chase a plundering and crooked thug, from governing ( or ruining) the country and now what UNP leader gets in return is a no confidence motion. At the election voters should teach a good lesson to ungrateful crooks.
