Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa advised all the senior officers in the military and the police service that have experience of more than twenty years to write a book so that the public would know the hardships and sacrifices they made to liberate the country from terrorism.

He was speaking at the ceremony of launching the book ‘The Rise and the Fall of the LTTE’ authored by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mahinda Balasuriya.

“Experience should be used to write a book after a prolong investigation. There are so many incidents which took place during the war that the public is eager to know about”, he said.

He thanked IGP Balasuriya for taking the first step and showing the way to other senior officers in the military and the police as it is the first post war book to be launched. (Supun Dias)

    malkanthi Monday, 03 January 2011 06:02 AM

Good initiatives, but IGP with lack of war experience unlike military men, must have compiled all paper articles on war. But of course good suggestion by secretary defence. These experiences are priceless, will be beneficial for the future generation. But SF name speaks louder.

Oyage Sudu Kella Monday, 03 January 2011 06:10 AM

Also include how much they have taken as bribes, extra-marital affiars, how many innocents were killed, etc. etc.

    sunilsenerath Monday, 03 January 2011 06:57 AM

It may be a mandatory not to write any thing on General Fonseka and to write that every thing were done by Mahinda and Gotabaya

    Saradial Monday, 03 January 2011 07:37 AM

Razor Blade Monday, 03 January 2011 08:17 AM

Razor Blade Monday, 03 January 2011 08:23 AM

Naleen Pradeep Monday, 03 January 2011 09:01 AM

Why don't you ask us to write a book about the Government? We have so many things to indicate.

    Rupasinghe Monday, 03 January 2011 09:40 AM

Sure, for some people who are talking like ignorant idiots without knowing the meaning of "peace" and how much our militory have sacrifiesed to achieve it (Not only SF, but all)

    desilva Tuesday, 04 January 2011 05:26 AM

Well he helped end it, whether people like to believe that or not.

    Prag Monday, 03 January 2011 01:53 AM

Rather than writing a book, send them to Singapore and malaysia to see how those government comitted to develop the country... u also go and see...

Jim Dougal Monday, 03 January 2011 02:49 AM

And presumably Mr. Defence Secretary, the soldier with the most to tell will be writing his book from a prison cell....His reward for 'liberating' the country from a grateful government?

    hrm Monday, 03 January 2011 02:57 AM

but this is also a good suggestion... books always guide people to prevent same thing happening again and again.. take lot of post-Vietnam war books as examples

    Prabath Monday, 03 January 2011 02:59 AM

What is the relavance between writing a book to disclose the experiences in the war front and developing Malaysia and Singapore for War vetarans???

    sinhalaya Monday, 03 January 2011 11:00 AM

NOW WHAT MAKES YOU THINK THAT THE GENERAL PUBLIC WANT TO READ THESE BOOKS

    micky Monday, 03 January 2011 03:01 AM

MIlitory people has done thier job. So whats the big deal of publishing their experience? You cant make SL to singapore by few nights. U do ur part to develop the country.. At least u stop dumping ur garbage on the road

    Saman Monday, 03 January 2011 11:01 AM

Funny....This will never be a true story if they write a book. And in this book they will have have to include chapters such as ... Chapter 1 . Praba and LTTE,
Chapter 2 Army and other forces
Chapter 3. Last part of the war
    Chapter 4 Winning of war
Chapter 5 SF and his prison life

    BHAYA Monday, 03 January 2011 03:09 AM

SPLENDID SUGGESTION. TO MAKE AN INTERESTING START, LETS ASK GENERAL SARATH FONSEKA WRITE THE BOOK INITIALLY !

    willows Monday, 03 January 2011 11:31 AM

no one will write the real story other that GSF, and it will too vet by the MOD???

    MagodisThuma Monday, 03 January 2011 11:45 AM

Only he can write a book... If others do, they'll go to jail !.

    Cynic Monday, 03 January 2011 03:56 AM

If they include all bribes taken, the book will be a thick one.

Sean Wije Monday, 03 January 2011 04:07 AM

i"m sure Major General Sarath Fonseka would write a good book....

knight Rider Monday, 03 January 2011 04:03 AM

but we are yet to liberate the country from corruption

    Ranjan Monday, 03 January 2011 04:19 AM

Also encourage the normal soldiers to write a book on the hardships that they face now, after the war is over.

    Allex Monday, 03 January 2011 04:15 AM

Please be careful, you may get ended up with concrete evidence on war crimes. alx

    Cobra Monday, 03 January 2011 12:12 PM

...and that book will be a fairy tale!!!!

Meshach Reuben Monday, 03 January 2011 04:17 AM

Does this request include SF as well ?

    Faqi Monday, 03 January 2011 12:10 PM

Why are you waiting until he say?

    DXB Monday, 03 January 2011 04:26 AM

So most experienced person to write a book is SF (40 years plus service)

    ABC Monday, 03 January 2011 04:27 AM
