Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa has confirmed he will assume duties as an Opposition MP while stating that he accepts the results of the parliamentary elections with humility.

The former President who contested at the parliamentary elections as a UPFA candidate from the Kurunegala district, in a statement thanked the voters, activists and the people’s representatives of the UPFA who contributed to the election campaign.

“I thank the voters who placed their confidence in our party despite the unprecedented obstacles that we had to face,” he has noted while adding, “I will continue to engage in politics in keeping with the people’s mandate and I will function within parliament to safeguard the nation and the democratic system.”

Intimidation of judges, police officers, FCID, bureaucrats of various depts. and bribing will be done from this office. and the President and PM should ensure that officials are protected from harassment if the govt. expects a through and sincere job of work done by the govt. officials.

People, I think MR needs to stick around for a few reasons, how interesting was politics during the last year or so? Its because people put in more attention and decided whats right, unlike the traditional election where looters come in different names and go. Now we eagerly look at both parties and point out whats right and wrong! this keeps the crooked politicians at check! Its good for the country and the people! We appoint them and we expect them to work for us! God Bless Sri Lanka!
