A voter in the Polgahawela electorate who is in perfect health has received a poll card with the endorsement that “the voter is dead”. The angry voter has lodged a complaint to the District Elections Commissioner, asking for an immediate explanation as to what led the Election’s office to assume that he was dead.

The voter, P.M.Weerawickrama Bandara of Wellewa in his complaint stated that this error was a clear indication of the declining administrative system in the country.

However the Grama Niladhari of the area said he did not make any such remark in the voters list that was submitted to the Elections Office. (Daily Mirror online)

People who lives in Graveyard are treated as dead thats normalcy. Sri Lanka is already dead so Mr. Bandara, sorry to say you also dead long ago.

    Tuesday, 30 March 2010 10:32 AM

I hope the village administrator would not ask for proof to ascertain whether he lives or not! There are false claimants for dead ones' money in EPF and other benefits, only after the moneys are withdrawn the heirs come to know about the swindling!

Although this is a serious case, here in Srilanka its normal to government. This is just one case. They have planed already that they are again ahead 100,000 in postal votes like last time. and they will keep 66% 33% for and against in every electorate (except Colombo and Kandy normaly UNP) to maintain a 2/3.

It may be a real mistake but it should not happen and the person responsible must appologize to him. Why do people blame the government for everything including Prabhakaran's death?

    Tuesday, 30 March 2010 07:28 AM

If the Doctor says you are dead...Don't argue !.

    Tuesday, 30 March 2010 09:38 AM

All the people who are going to vote for the opposition are dead. It means that their votes are not counted even if they vote.

    Tuesday, 30 March 2010 08:27 AM

In a country where realy dead people vote in thousands, why a living voter is so much worried about being considered dead??

The country is already dead. So don't worry whether you are dead or alive
