Expressing his views regarding the assault on Judicial Services Commission Secretary Manjula Tillekaratne, former Army commander Sarath Fonseka yesterday charged that a gang operated with state patronage might have been behind it.

Speaking to the media at the Supreme Court complex yesterday morning he said a situation had arisen today where the judiciary is seeking justice.

“As politicians we would like to support the Judiciary in securing and ensuring justice.  We believe that government patronage has been received to carry out this attack. According to information we received, government politicians and their henchmen known for criminal activities have been involved in this attack,” the former army commander alleged.

He also criticized media statements made by some politicians over police investigations into the matter.

“Some politicians have told the media that the police were ordered to carry out investigations and arrest the persons involved. But I have my doubts. Such an attack in a high security zone cannot be carried out without state patronage. We believe that the judiciary will be brave enough to face these challenges,” he said. to do a full clean up in a country like this, you need to have gangs that operates with state patronage...but that leader must be a honest person who really loves his country and it's people...unfortunately MR is surrounded by a bunch of uneducated thugs, posing as politicians...

    david Tuesday, 09 October 2012 05:48 AM

but we can remember, during the killing of lasantha wickrematunge, the unp was blaming in the parliament, you as the culprit!

Ronnie Wade Tuesday, 09 October 2012 06:31 AM

Funny, The ex General seems to have more inside info about matters of this nature now than at the time of Lassanth's killing when infact Mr Fonseka was the most powerful Army General.

    Malini Tuesday, 09 October 2012 06:27 AM

Is this a minor Incident ?

    Managala Tuesday, 09 October 2012 11:16 AM

He get to know the behavior of a politician "Taking advantage from every incident" rather than sensibly showing cruelness what being happened to judicial system. Please SF try to do politics not like the rest of politicos try to give us something different gentleman politics which do not see every action government take as wrong and seeing good as good and bad as bad....

Geethani Samaranayak Tuesday, 09 October 2012 11:35 AM

Ronnie Wade : You are questioning the capability of Mr. Sarath Fonseka of assaulting the judge as SF was blamed at Mr. Lasantha Wickrsmtunge’s murder.
Whoever considers MR as an enemy could organize this simple attack to keep MR responsible.

Mr. Udurawana : In fact your comments are very realistic and reasonable. Thanks for 'Daily Miror' for publishing his neutral minded views.

I appeal all Medias to publish real picture of any news without hurrying for sake of ethics. We need to see correct side of any incident.

    Labby Tuesday, 09 October 2012 07:22 AM

I think they need to appoint a commission of inquiry to find out why the JSC Secretary was seated in his car reading the newspaper that day. It's he's fault, don't you think?

    Sumithi Tuesday, 09 October 2012 01:37 AM

Hope something BELIEVABLE come out of an PROPER investigation. Otherwise will be forgotten and moved onto NEXT incident as usual..

    kumara Tuesday, 09 October 2012 01:59 AM

We all know it sir, You are the only leader who can save our country. But, the majority is not on your side as usual. Majority do not have a brain to think how these happinings link to political leadership. Sri Lankans are,,,, I dont know...they think differently. They meya , perhaps think these happane on bal luck... Poor Sri Lankans, they dont know there are the people who have elected these rulers.

Calistus Jayatilleke Tuesday, 09 October 2012 07:39 AM

He should know as he was also part of this establishment not so long ago. Those who kidnapped and assaulted journalist Keith Nohyar; those who waylaid and murdered Sunday Leader editor Lasantha in broadlight on a busy street close to a Navy camp; and those who now resorted to this attack again in broadlight : undoubtedly are the same gang of thugs operating with official blessing and whatever the Police does they can never be caught as long as this regime is in power,.

Well said Mr. Former General Fonseka - we will see the outcome...

    Sumanasiri Tuesday, 09 October 2012 02:32 AM

With all his experience, he should know better than anyone else.

    RAZA Tuesday, 09 October 2012 02:51 AM

    SF"S ALLEGATIONS COULD BE ACCEPTABLE.

Herby Padmaperuma.. Tuesday, 09 October 2012 02:54 AM

I DO NOT NORMALLY AGREEE WITH MR. SARATH FONSEKA,FOR MOST OF HIS STATEMENTS ARE MADE UNER PEJUDICE. BUT I ENDORSE 100% WITH HIM AS THE ENTIRE COUNTRY DOES, IT WAS AN HIHGHLY DESPICALE ACT OF THE STATE SPONSORED SORDID ASSAULT ON MR. MANJULA THILLEKERATNE, PERHAPS IT WAS A FITTING TYPE OF " RETURN GRTITUDE " FOR THE DISMAL TYPE OF SUPPORT EXTENDED TO TDHE INFAMOUS FATHER AND SON. INTELLIGENT PEOPLE THINK POSSIBILITIES.

jay gunasekara Tuesday, 09 October 2012 02:49 AM

this attack was done by the presidential security division which is manned by thugs and murderers roaming the country looking for any anti govt agitators like Dimuthu Artigala in Jaffna or the two university agitators who were murdered and the bodies dumped by the roadside to look like a accident. The dictatorship is now flexing their muscle more and more as the govt is sinking in it's pseudo economic quagmire.

nicky karunarathna Tuesday, 09 October 2012 02:51 AM

Talking about his own experience, we would like to ask him during his tenure with govt and one time blue eyed boy - how many gangs he operated with the govt patronage? And also how many killing, kidnappings and disapearences he is aware of with his involvement during that time. Come on mate, spill the beans now.

    Kandula Tuesday, 09 October 2012 02:56 AM

isn't this ATTACK what the opposition needs and the Government does not

    Siripala Tuesday, 09 October 2012 03:03 AM

Well said sir The country is marching towards dictatorship. Anybody oppose the king will be crushed instantly.Unfortunately majority of the people do not understand this scenario. They keep on voting for these thugs.

    Wara Tuesday, 09 October 2012 03:11 AM

Why don't you reveal the names according to the information you received. You can say those names publicly rather than hitting the bush ! This would helpful for the police to catch the culprits.

Thomas Ranger Tuesday, 09 October 2012 03:17 AM

The General has commented that now the time has come for the Judiciary has to seek justice. That's the best quote I've heard in a long time. How true. Keep it up, General.

    Wara Tuesday, 09 October 2012 03:38 AM

Only few people like you have brains.

buffaloa citizen Tuesday, 09 October 2012 03:48 AM

Patronage is when one is not involved but supports. However, GOSL is directly involved in all these deeds where currently serving armed forces units are directed and used to carry activities. Trinco Students, ACF Workers, Ekneligoda, Taraki, Lasantha are just a few incidents of where investigations are obviously dead locked as the perpetrators are squarely and part of the State. International and even local reports substantially implicate GOSL of calculated massacre's many with with top level involvement. Even SF though crying foul now, was also part and parcel of this State Terrorism Instituition.

    ProtestBuster Tuesday, 09 October 2012 08:57 AM

Despicable act - attaching a public official like this.
However, SF had said "Such an attack in a high security zone cannot be carried out without state patronage."
Mr. Tillekaratne was attacked near St. Thomas College, Mt. Lavinia; so the attack did not take place in a high security zone.
(newsfrist.lk reports "The Secretary of the Judicial Service Commission Manjula Tillekeratne was assaulted down Hotel Road near S.Thomas College, Mt.Lavinia.")
So this shows SF is just another politician, just happy that someone has been attacked, and is trying to take political advantage out of it.
    Get a life SF.

    Udurawana Tuesday, 09 October 2012 08:57 AM

Can impartial person erect the fingers at the government especially few minutes after the incident? Will government act such a foolish way knowing that they will become offenders as Mr. T’ratne had criticized the Executive President recently? Can’t any local body i.e. a political party or a person who is having such capability in the opposition had done that knowing the blame can directly put on to the MR? Or, Can’t organize foreign country through their intelligent service like CIA to create an issue in the country?
Having tendency of said occurrences I think all Medias and people should act wisely without falling into bankrupt politicians’ laps.

Nihal Amarasekera Tuesday, 09 October 2012 03:53 AM

SF should be knowing better than most.

    Nelanka Tuesday, 09 October 2012 03:58 AM

    STOP TALKING

    Cancer Tuesday, 09 October 2012 04:30 AM

We see many injustice happening in the country, but the government is not STUPID to target a high profile official as the JSC Secretary at time when there is a dispute. Why can't it be the work of some elements that are hell bent to destroy the image of the country internationally???. A leaf is enough to move for people like SF to gain some cheap political mileage.

Junior Citizen Tuesday, 09 October 2012 04:34 AM

He thinks the terror gang he set up who killed Lasantha, exist even now. it was highlighted by the UNP in parliament few years ago i think in 2008/9.

    Mason Tuesday, 09 October 2012 04:52 AM

It is the State which had a grouse against the Secretary - JSC. No one else benefits by assaulting the JSC Secretary to make him keep quiet.
Coffin for the burial of Judiciary is under preparation.

    Nimal Tuesday, 09 October 2012 04:54 AM

I also think this act has been planned by the government.

    Managala Tuesday, 09 October 2012 05:03 AM

We had these kind of thousand hopes of people more than 60 yrs no one seems kept people's hope for better country wonder whether SF would do if he selected as president one day ..
