UPFA MP Vasudeva Nanayakkara today proposed MP Dinesh Gunawardane to be appointed as the Opposition Leader claiming it was unethical for the SLFP to hold both Cabinet Ministerial posts as well as the position of the Opposition Leader.

He said the ‘National Government’ formed yesterday was not a genuine National Government but a coalition government of the UNP and SLFP.

“When there are SLFP ministers, the incumbent Opposition leader will not be able to criticise ministers or the government. Therefore, if the Speaker of the House calls for a new Opposition leader, we will name Mr. Gunawardane,” he told a news conference in Colombo today.
