Heh heh heh , well said Raj

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 06:37 AM

Even the forthcoming Indian Film Festival should be cancelled. The Leadership should not host tamasha's when the country is in a economy downfall!!

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 06:29 AM

I think we have enough holidays as it is.... no need for one more..

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 06:27 AM

    well said friend

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 06:26 AM

maybe its divine intervention to remind us to focus on the important things... like reconciliation !

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 06:22 AM

    Totally Agree!

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 06:20 AM

:) LOL we dont even know all their names!

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 06:11 AM

Most of these parades take place WITHOUT the public. Only the VIP and diplomatic personnel are allowed to watch these. The CITIZENS of this country who pay for the upkeep of those holding the parade would just have to make do by watching on their TV sets !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And for how many days have these Armed forces personnel both men and women suffered with the climate during their rehersals ?

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 06:06 AM

    exactly

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 06:41 AM

I subscribe to the view of the majority of the commentators that this is an absolute waste of money at a time when the country is facing an economic crisis. This only creates a rift between communities and it is clearly evident that the government is still playing to the gallery. War is over and let us unite and forge ahead for a united Sri Lanka throwing away all petty differences.

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 05:44 AM

Seems U haven't been caught in da rain

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 05:36 AM

GOSL- SPEND THOSE MONEY ON A WORTHY CAUSE- FEED THE POOR-THOSE EFFECTED BY THE WAR-IN THE NORTH/EAST-ATLEAST THIS WILL BRING YOU SOME MERITS FROM GOD

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 05:11 AM

    Praise the Lord !

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 04:57 AM

No actually 225 gods, all near Diyavanna.

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 04:55 AM

There were thousand of War hero's who lost their life's, wounded, disabled & some of them are still missing.... this victory won't be possible without them. credit should go to all three commanders who work tirelessly at that time....General Fonseka, Air Marshal Roshan & Admiral Karanngoda.

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 04:30 AM

    age will cure your problem

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 04:29 AM

Is that why you and a lot of other people including the politicians go to church, kovil or devale mate?i suppose they go there to seek blessings from mother nature.

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 04:24 AM

Rain is considered a blessing in Sri Lanka. Whenever something good is planned, people expect rain. So abundant rain is a very good sign. Sadly, the old infrstructure cannot stad to it. That's the only issue.

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 08:37 AM

You are quite right there - a true Buddhist would not rejoice in another's death or sorrow.
Besides there are better things to be done with all the funds being wasted on this.

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 10:26 PM

True verdict, from above, for going against the teachings of the Buddha!

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 06:50 PM

Even nature is crying for the civilians who died and were handicapped in the war.

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 10:02 AM

Will the govt spend the money towards the rehabilitation of those affected in the flood?

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 09:12 AM

it was not only SF that contributed to the war....General Fonseka, Air Marshal Roshan & Admiral Karanngoda are also the responsible for our peace!

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 09:10 AM

You all are so stupid! It raining cos its the MONSOON season not cos SF is in military custody! Use your general knowledge PLEASE!

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 09:04 AM

    Act of God !!

@ shiranthi: but when did the govt listen to the people? they are only concerned about family and company

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 09:02 AM

By reading all the comments I am proud to say that still there are plenty of nice people in Sri Lanka.

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 08:39 AM

Or stop wasting money on nonsense

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 04:18 AM

MAY ALL THE SOULES REST IN PEACE

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 07:44 AM

Shirani, Hats off to you for your very intelligent statement.

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 07:43 AM

Today the mother nature is weeping for the massive bloodshed of so many sons and daughters of this nation irrespective their ethnic differences.

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 07:31 AM

    Nature itself is God.

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 07:29 AM

It's ONE GOD, in many faces.

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 07:12 AM

It is quite clear from the comments given so far, that the ordinary citizens of Sri Lanka do not want this THAMASHA on Victory Day. Then Who wants it? The organisers better think twice before rescheduling the event.

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 07:03 AM

We should not CELEBRATE victory day - but COMMEMORATE it in a solemn way. Both sides of the divide lost many lives - Buddhists dont rejoice in death.

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 06:49 AM

Rain or sunshine, didn't we have celebrations for the Independence day. Why spent all that money just have only that day.

    Monday, 17 May 2010 05:04 PM

    There is a god!

    Monday, 17 May 2010 08:54 PM

Forces of nature mate, nothing to do with imaginary gods!

    Monday, 17 May 2010 07:30 PM

You cannot ignore Mother-Nature, as you do the wounded feelings of thousands of 'voiceless' people!

    Monday, 17 May 2010 07:25 PM

What is required is reconciliation with the Tamils!

    Monday, 17 May 2010 07:09 PM

Even Nature knows how unjustified the celebration is!

    Monday, 17 May 2010 06:10 PM

I think that Nature is crying for those innocents, killed during the war!

    Monday, 17 May 2010 05:31 PM

Mother-Nature is angry at the true hero's being wrongly imprisoned.

    Monday, 17 May 2010 05:28 PM

How could you have held the celebrations, with the General in custody?

    Monday, 17 May 2010 05:16 PM

Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! I knew it!

    Monday, 17 May 2010 09:19 PM

The government will not be able to celebrate the victory, so long as General Sarath Fonseka remains behind bars.

    Monday, 17 May 2010 05:01 PM

After all we 'like' our Govt to spend money on these unnecessary festivities? Why not also make this a public holiday, each year?

    Monday, 17 May 2010 04:50 PM

This is an act of god!

    Monday, 17 May 2010 04:45 PM

How can you celebrate victory day, when the real hero is behind bars eh?

    Monday, 17 May 2010 04:37 PM

    God is great!

    Monday, 17 May 2010 04:28 PM

We should consider the fact that this is also the death anniversary of thousands, on both sides, hence it would be inappropriate to gloat. Such moneys would be better spent on both the families of lost soldiers and IDPs.

    Monday, 17 May 2010 04:27 PM

    Mother-Nature's punishment!

    Monday, 17 May 2010 04:25 PM

This is divine intervention (in the purest sense) for the grave injustice done to the man who led the annihilation of the LTTE. Hope H.E. the President will, even at this late stage, show good statesmanship and grant some relief to the former General, who is being treated like an outcast, at the moment.

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 03:21 AM

Lets sanity prevail. The Govt should restrict the event to rememberence of war heroes at the War Memorial near Parlimentary Complex and encourage public to engage in religious activities to invoke blessings on war heroes and civilians who were caught in the war and lost their lives. Percy

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 04:15 AM

God does not punish twice. They will pay for the crime commited at the day of judgement unless they repent.
    But nature react for unjust.
further even when we had Republicday parade on May 22nd after 1972 it was always with the heavy rains at Galleface.

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 04:13 AM

This is not due to General SF's imprisonment, he is no saint, but also responsible for the blood of the innocent victims shed during war! We should not rejoice over such occasion, instead should have a Day of Reconciliation!

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 04:09 AM

Capital "KD"...if you don't have a religion keep your mouth shutt & let others have a freedom of at least believe their God

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 04:07 AM

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 04:02 AM

It's ok for you to be an aethist, but pls do learn to respect others' beliefs

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 04:01 AM

These days are the last days of 'End of this AGE'.There will be more dIsasters which will slowly destroy life on earth, and those whose lives are based on 'MATERIAL THINGS'

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 03:55 AM

It's a very rare occassion when al the comments posted for a news story almost agree with one another. This is one such occassion. The message is simple. Be humble in your victory and look beyond horizen in to the future.

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 03:34 AM

mother nature is waiting for general's release.

    Monday, 17 May 2010 04:22 PM

This is a curse from God! How can we celebrate the victory, when the person who lead the war, from the front, is in Navy custody?

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 03:14 AM

Agree with the comments made by Citizen1. We could spend the money to uplift the living condition of the people who were affected by the war and give the victory more meaning rather than having tamashas.

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 02:37 AM

It's like Mother Lanka killed its children and celebrating as VICTORY?

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 02:32 AM

We should be looking at helping the IDPs and not do victory parades.

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 02:12 AM

Why government wants to spend big money on these kind of ceremonies when they are struggling to find money to pay salaries,to get down the important medicine,ect...

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 02:09 AM

    Thank you weather Gods!!!

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 02:03 AM

    Which God...?.
There are 330 Million Gods in Sri Lanka !.

    Tuesday, 18 May 2010 01:54 AM

Seems there are so many negative comments. Why don't the Govt. cancel the ceremony and hold it religiously . Utilize the money that they were going to spend on the celebration to uplift the neglected city of Colombo.
