Look who is talking about the allegations of violations of international law.......Americans need to clean up their own backyards before they start pointing fingers at others.

SL is independent and no advice will be entertained please

    raj Wednesday, 07 March 2012 07:04 PM

similar resolution should have filed by Sri Lanka to reinforce LLRC's recommendations and to give credibility to its findings.

    Niv Thursday, 08 March 2012 07:33 AM

Did you read the UNHCR mandate? LOL

    Nalith Thursday, 08 March 2012 07:47 AM

USA you thinking Sri lanka under your control? you want to make again terrorism in SL what about Afgan, Suriya, Libiya, Iraq? you are number one terrorist and against huminity. very soon US will isolate from Asia.

    Niv Thursday, 08 March 2012 07:33 AM

Can you list down the steps taken from LLRC recommendations?

    Mahi Thursday, 08 March 2012 07:47 AM

Exactly true!!! We are just a bunch of hypocrits. When we and our children look for greener pastures in the West, we even try to become citizens of these very same countries that most condemn here with their comments. LLRC report is a product of the Sri Lankan government. We should have implemented the recommendations long before the Geneva Conference. By not implementing the recommendations of the LLRC, the government is trying to hide behind it by drawing the attention of the people away from various domestic problems like the cost of living and daily escalation of prices by diverting their attention to hate politics against the West.

    Rangan Thursday, 08 March 2012 07:48 AM

Gadafy of Libiya, Saddam of Iran and Panama's General Norika all said so against the USA.

    Where are they now?

It is a super power. Understand that and comply.

There were countries such as Canada, Aussie, UK and France willing to table this motion.

But US involving directly in to it send a clear message to all. Even India find it difficult to make a decision and that speaks a lots.

China, Russia can do anything here as no veto here and perhaps that's why it is in Geneva.

    philip Thursday, 08 March 2012 07:39 AM

Oh yes, Russia has a great reputation for peacemaking.Their iInvasion of Afghanistan allowed the taliban to take over and caused all the current problems and their invasion of eastern europe caused misery for decades. Chinese invasion of Tibet and their support for regimes in Burma, Laos, North Korea, Vietnam and Cambodia saw the slaughter of millions of buddhists. Indians fighting in Kashmir and with most of their neighbours and problems between races and castes everywhere in their own country...Give me USA and its' allies any day!

The God Father Thursday, 08 March 2012 07:41 AM

It is all all about how strong you are ....it doesnt matter whether you are an individual or a country ........unfortunately the more powerful you are the more laws you can break and bully the vulnerable person or the country.
    Atleast lets learn from this.

    Nipun Friday, 09 March 2012 11:16 AM

It was Sadam who placed anti air craft guns in hospitals and schools in IRAQ. and it was USA that bombed them indiscriminately, killing children and innocent people. REALLY DID NOT USA INCLUDE THESE HOSPITALS IN THE FIRE ZONE AND BOMBED THEM LIVE ON TV IN FRONT OF OUR EYES?

LTTE FORCED THESE TAMIL PEOPLE TO COME WITH THEM AT GUN POINT . we all saw the images!. LTTE CLAIMED THAT THESE PEOPLE WANTED TO DIE WITH PERBAKERM than run to safety of the Sri Lankan army.

THEY INVENTED A MASSACRE OF THEIR OWN PEOPLE THAT IS NOW BLAMED ON SRI LANKAN ARMY. LTTE KEPT THESE PEOPLE AS BOTH A HUMAN SHIELD AND A READY SUPPLY OF TROOPS AND CHILD SOLDIERS !!!

    Tonto Thursday, 08 March 2012 09:22 AM

It will be China, North Korea, Siriya, Russia, Venezuela, Myanmar etc which greatly value human rights.

    jacoob Thursday, 08 March 2012 09:24 AM

This is exacatly what happened in Sri lanka ; Sinhal govt played fool with tamils : Now it is time for return match. Strangely USA Vs Sri lanka .. Cool !!

    Renu Thursday, 08 March 2012 03:19 AM

US is not asking for very much, Implementation of LLRC fully and of course accountability in all aspects of Governance regards HR

    Raja Thursday, 08 March 2012 03:31 AM

Who trained and sold arms to Libyan and Syrian rebels in the past two decades? Investigate this as Libya is in shambles after the NATO bombed the country for over 6 months to support the rebels they armed.

    Lalo Thursday, 08 March 2012 03:33 AM

    I just read this:
    Alleged Tamil migrant mastermind charged
Mar 8 (CP) RCMP have launched an international manhunt for the first person charged in connection with a ship that brought hundreds of Tamil migrants to Canada's West Coast a year and a half ago. Thayakaran Markandu has been charged with organizing illegal entry into Canada, the Mounties announced. The charge relates to the MV Sun Sea, which arrived in August 2010 carrying 492 Tamil migrants. Markandu, who court records indicate was born in 1972"

This is too a human rights violation------ or may be not !

    harfim Thursday, 08 March 2012 03:34 AM

First and foremost, the USA should cleanse both her hands up to her shoulders of the heavily stained blood of countless Iraqis and American soldiers, Afghans, Pakistanis, Osama bin Laden and Ghaddafi and Libyans etc etc before talking oflapoplication of internatinal law on others specifically those who routed the deadliest terrorist group, like the ocutapus with tantacles around the globe. Though the Octapus' head has been cut off, the tentacles are active and have taken a satrangehold on Pillay's neck and the necks of Obama and the EU. I do hope in the end justice will prevail with the realisation that Sri Lanka did what it had to do - that is act to bring about peace and economic progress, which the US and EU at the behest of Pillay are trying to undermine. Let the US and EU not forget that Pillay is a Tamil and to her and her like revenge is sweet. Sri Lanka may be a small country but she has proved that she is a lion among animals.

    steve Thursday, 08 March 2012 11:13 AM

What is the big deal? The resolution only asks to implement the LLRC recommendations.

Ranjith Fonseka Thursday, 08 March 2012 11:06 AM

Ridiculous - World's No. 1 Criminal who is responsible for killings over millions of human beings world over brings Resolutions on Human Rights against a tiny nation like Sri Lanka!

    jank Thursday, 08 March 2012 03:27 AM

Go to hell USA...We will create an organization with members of countries who are human....definitely its gonna be Asia, Africa, and South American continent.....

Then we will oppose all other .........

    TMA Thursday, 08 March 2012 11:20 AM

    Or @ least the resolution

    Mahesh Thursday, 08 March 2012 03:41 AM

How about Sri Lanka submiting a resolution for crimes in Afganistan, Iraq and torture chambers like Guantanamo Bay

    willows Thursday, 08 March 2012 03:46 AM

hope nothing really serious will happen at Geneva, but we should work towards harmony of all ethnics in this country forget the pass and move forward if we are to see the real benefits of ending the war.

    RM Thursday, 08 March 2012 03:35 AM

Sri Lanka can probably defeat this resolution by arguing for more time and space to respond during the UPR in October 2012. But actual implementation of solutions and satisfactory progress in this regard are needed to prevent repeated future attempts and finally put these issues to rest.

    Rangan Thursday, 08 March 2012 03:46 AM

OK. Another plan load of weerayas to Geneva......

    solomon Thursday, 08 March 2012 04:07 AM

USA is interfering in other countries past rather than trying to find solutions for their own problems. Good time for Al-quid to attack USA.

    Tonto Thursday, 08 March 2012 03:59 AM

A bit of humble advise to our powerful leaders, "Do not mess around with the only supper power". We have observed how they move.

    RAJ Thursday, 08 March 2012 04:15 AM

check the reason for these illegal migration... millions of people migrated illegally and then given permission to live given the fact that sl is not a secure place for them...

    Ranjith Thursday, 08 March 2012 04:11 AM

it is a good move, we need not criticize others, first we have enter into fully humanitarian strcuture.
So, I hope it is a good move, first we have to implement the reccomondations of LLRC, it is our own proposals. then to the further move.
it will lead SL for a another Singapore rathar than a USA.

    shan Thursday, 08 March 2012 04:33 AM

Why SL government and it sole stakeholders- that is Sinhalese fear of this resolution merely asking implement the good features of LLRC..They are not going to implement their own commission findings.Otherwise why so much arguments and waste of energy and resources to block the resolution.

    Nodrog Thursday, 08 March 2012 04:47 AM

No one said they are not going to implement it, just asking for time!

    Nodrog Thursday, 08 March 2012 04:49 AM

AMG, unfortunately not. Even in our own country, the politicians, those with connections and other big shots are always right. Its the small guy who always pays the price.

    Nodrog Thursday, 08 March 2012 04:51 AM

Renu, is it asking for too much to ask the US and other busy-bodies to first check their human rights issues before looking into ours?

    Dharitha Thursday, 08 March 2012 04:52 AM

UNHCR can impose resolution on us about, investigation on killings and disappearances, freedom of expression etc. But how they pressure Sovereign country on Military deployment, Land laws and devolution of power, Hik..Hik......First of all USA must read the UNHCR Mandate...

Champika Ranawaka Thursday, 08 March 2012 04:53 AM

    VIVA USA !!!

Stanley Mayadunne Thursday, 08 March 2012 04:56 AM

Sri Lanka is in the process of implementing the LLRC recommendations. True it is a slow process, but already positive steps have been taken. We don't need advise of the worst war criminal in the world, that is USA, to correct our wrongs if any.

    raj Thursday, 08 March 2012 05:05 AM

LLRC commissions was nominated by Sri Lankan government. Recommendations made by LLRC commission. Then what is the reason to oppose the resolution instead of supporting the resolution?

    ind Thursday, 08 March 2012 05:08 AM

We as Sinhalese doing that from decades (except few racists). But now UN with US trying to bring that to a end and create another war, and they can sell some more weapons and earn some $$$. US doing that in every possible country by the name of HR.

    wonderboy Thursday, 08 March 2012 05:17 AM

Why don't WE look into ours? Then others will not interfere!

    besensible Thursday, 08 March 2012 05:20 AM

Read it buddy. The resolution is very reasonable.

    Chathura Thursday, 08 March 2012 05:08 AM

Why is it that we have to keep asking other people to check if their backyards are clean? We, as a nation, both people and politicians, no that there have been and continue to be widespread human rights violations on the country. Why wait or give other countries the opportunity to criticise us? What they are saying is correct, it doesnt matter that they have violated human rights as well. We need to look at ourselves, and worry about our people. All this anti-western, anti-UN, anti-international community feeling and hatred is bred by the current government to divert attention from the facts. People commenting here, please open your eyes.

Sri Lankan Thursday, 08 March 2012 05:10 AM

All you people just shout at the US and western countries, you call them all sort of names, BUT YOU ARE THE VERY SAME PEOPLE TO GO TO THE US APPLY FOR GREEN CARDS SEND YOUR CHILDREN TO THE WEST FOR STUDIES EVEN GO THEIR AND SETTLE DOWN. Stop being so stupid,

In a time when govt. is messed up in every way, the only way 2 impress the ppl is that we're @ war with USA. Sri Lankans hate USA, remember

    ase Thursday, 08 March 2012 05:13 AM

we dam amis, it is ok, the govt. should implicate rush llrc recomandations, that is what we too are looking for and the other points govt. should look in to it cos it is human, as to see we all want the same thing but only we, the volk of sl, our govt. fabricate diffrent thing for there own sake, let us handel this in right way, not like fools s that we loose more than we earn, remember 70s where we had to quaea for a loaf of bread,a peace of cloth, no milk power, forgine currency & import restictions, rice rations are just a bit to mention.

    j Thursday, 08 March 2012 05:17 AM

Why, I dont think any bad side of that resolution

    Leslie Thursday, 08 March 2012 05:32 AM

There is nothing wrong with the resolution the USA wants to pass. Sri Lanka asking for time is a ploy towards non-implementation as the LLRC recommendations issued an year ago have up to now not been implemented.
Let us be honest, the recommendations in the LLRC report benefits the people of the country as a whole.

    Labby Thursday, 08 March 2012 05:32 AM

Sri Lanka is bound to respond. We shouldn't be naive, instead let's state the facts.

    Lisa Thursday, 08 March 2012 12:38 PM

Well said. US is the worst of the worst.

    jude Thursday, 08 March 2012 05:56 AM

USA don't aim stones when you're in a glass house!!!???. USA is the biggest culprit to break all international laws and commit atrocious crimes around the world. You can't get UN to pass any resolutions, because all UN & UN agencies heads from 3rd world countries, and these heads of UN agencies working on US agenda to police the whole world. And US provide majority of funds to run UN and it's agencies. Therefore, these puppets in (UN & UN agencies) don't want to bite the hand that feed them. The USA domination and police for the world long gone and now it's Russia, India & China that calling the shots in new world order.
