US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Wednesday voiced concern over the plight of Internally Displaced Persons in Sri Lanka and said United States was looking at some innovative and creative ideas to break the impasse over the Sri Lankan Tamils issue.

Hillary Clinton who called on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa at the secretariat in Chennai, told her that US was looking at enabling Sri Lankan Tamils in camps get back to their own homes.

Jayalalithaa said though the war between the Sri Lankan army and LTTE in the island nation was over two years ago, Sri Lankan Tamils in Jaffna area are unable to go back to where they used to live.

While discussing the issue of Sri Lankan refugees in Tamil Nadu, Jayalalithaa told Hillary Clinton they have been provided all facilities that were available to local citizens.

Both of them discussed various social, political and economic issues of common interest.

The US Secretary of State also congratulated Jayalalithaa on her electoral victory in the April 13 assembly polls.

During the meeting, Jayalalithaa recalled the strong bilateral trade relations between India and United States. Inviting more US investment in the Automobile sector in Tamil Nadu, she said Tamil Nadu enjoyed pre-eminence in automotive and auto components.

Jayalalithaa also expressed concern over reduction in issue of H1B visas even though in terms of number of Visas issued, the Chennai US Consulate was the second largest in the world.

Hillary invited Jayalalithaa to visit US which would enable Americans to know about the achievements of Tamil Nadu.

The meeting lasted for an hour. PTI

you can use the word resettlement when you actually resettled where they live earlier. I agree more than 200000 sent out of camps and settled somewhere in the north. But not in their native place. is this called resettled?

    Rohan Thursday, 21 July 2011 01:44 PM

Surely, Jayalalitha should know that there are still terrorists hiding and Sri Lanka doesn't want another war and it is the wisdom of the SL Govt to have the Army, Navy and Airforce posts in Jaffna for security.
Hillary tried her best with Milliband to disband the SL Govt over tamil terrorist issues and now she is trying another tactic. I think Hillary, Sri Lankan are very wise to your skulduggery

    Sammy Thursday, 21 July 2011 01:47 PM

Yes it is much safer having an army post.
You should be pleased that Govt is spending so much for the benefit and safety for the community and others who visit the North.

    Tammy Thursday, 21 July 2011 01:54 PM

I take your point. Who is responsible for all this doing. Its a shame Prabha is not there to watch the drama.

    ganesh Thursday, 21 July 2011 02:01 PM

    Sean,

Which world are you in? Go to your north and see.....

    Yehiya-Doha Thursday, 21 July 2011 02:20 PM

Her comments are more true & fruitful.

    jay Thursday, 21 July 2011 02:27 PM

Who ruined the country and how was it ruined will be told louder to the world when LG poll results are out. International community must put actions in place rather than statements because liberal democrats in sinhala society are very few in number the majority will never ever recognize tamil rights of language, culture, tradition, security majority of tamils are not feeling home in sri lanka whether they are in north or east or south or west because allways been kept under fear psychosis.

    Niv Thursday, 21 July 2011 03:06 PM

hope you visited again to the colorful camp same as the diplomats visited? Go and see the resettled ares not where the people forced to settled so called welfare camps...

    Gayan Thursday, 21 July 2011 03:12 PM

No "war crimes" talk? What happened to Jayalalita's big talks? Only during election time?.hehe

    Siri Thursday, 21 July 2011 01:38 PM

I spent a week in April in Jaffna. Business is booming, commodities in plenty & affordable - there's money in circulation and very few idling, no thanks to the Govt. but due to real heroes who liberated Northern citizens from the clutches of terrorism.

    Valikamamboy Thursday, 21 July 2011 05:09 PM

I am from Valikamam, Jaffna. We have displaced from our house for more than 20 years. Still we have not received our house back. Government has informed it is given, but we have not received yet. Indian government said to release some fund for the rehabilitation, but we have not received anything for this house. So my brothers from sinhalese south people, you have have to come and see the reality. Need more understanding of real problems in North.

    freehit Thursday, 21 July 2011 05:16 PM

Lady, you are way behind times. Innovative ideas ? Quite hilarious, to say the least. You really did put into practice your innovative ideas in Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya.

    Leo Thursday, 21 July 2011 05:12 PM

Like Blake, just words, no sense.

    malliloku Thursday, 21 July 2011 06:16 PM

Couldn't any one person just tell the truthful story?

    raju Friday, 22 July 2011 04:43 AM

Every one including muslims , sinhalese , Tamils are traumatized by war....Not only in Kilinochchi

    Ravana Thursday, 21 July 2011 06:08 AM

your thinking is wrong. There are plenty of people, particularly highly traumatized children in camps in Killinochchi.

    sean Wednesday, 20 July 2011 10:06 PM

I thought all the IDP camps are closed and people are resettled now. so what is she talking about ?

    Dinesh Thursday, 21 July 2011 01:53 AM

Why not look innovative and creative ideas to hold the Super Economy which is drowning year by year.

    ranjith Thursday, 21 July 2011 01:59 AM

    Ranjith
Hillory should come to Sri Lnaka and show us where these tamils still live in camps, more than 200,000 were settled only very few to be settled does Hillory want to settle them before demining, US took so many years to settle people after the tsunami

    lal Thursday, 21 July 2011 02:57 AM

I think Hillary Clinton must visit SriLanka and discus the all the Issues.

    MAH Thursday, 21 July 2011 03:00 AM

Tamil Nadu has no sincere interest in the state of Tamils in Sri Lanka, if Jayalalithaa really did care, she would stop making all these incoherent and inaccurate statements on the plight of Sri Lankan Tamils and take better care of Tamils from Sri Lanka in her state. Many are now leaving Tamil Nadu and going back to Sri Lanka. This speaks far more for the state of Tamils in Sri Lanka now, than this politician.

    Sammy Thursday, 21 July 2011 05:03 AM

To taste the apple, first bite the apple. To know about the situation in Sri Lanka, come to Sri Lanka. Do not comment without experiencing.

    SL Thursday, 21 July 2011 05:41 AM

Already done.....the step is Libiyan oil....

    Kan Thursday, 21 July 2011 06:00 AM

Sri Lanka can give you 'innovative ideas' at act on Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya and elsewhere. We don;t need yours, thanks.

    jacoob Wednesday, 20 July 2011 07:57 PM

" innovative ideas" .. in line with Iraq, Afgan , Libya etc ??

    Patriot-lol Thursday, 21 July 2011 09:17 AM

    Actions speak louder than words..

    Tamilan Thursday, 21 July 2011 09:28 AM

Situation in Colombo and South is completely different to those in Vanni,Jaffna and East.

    trinco Thursday, 21 July 2011 10:04 AM

I think the US is looking at the innovative idea of paying 10% for a political solution !!

    ajith Thursday, 21 July 2011 11:15 AM

Hilary,You will very much safer in Colombo than over there!!!

    eddy Thursday, 21 July 2011 12:37 PM

Hilary dont act like a dumb blonde,Sri Lanka is safe and well managed. Do us a favour and get the ltte out of the US and stop supporting the terrorist.

Jay Ranaweera Thursday, 21 July 2011 01:00 PM

Tamilian does not want to accept the fact that Vanni,Jaffna and East was under the jackboots control of LTTE over that past 3 decades,so the conditions are bad.In some places still DEMINNING IS TAKING PLACE!!!Do not shed crockerdile tears.

    Lakmal Thursday, 21 July 2011 01:13 PM

Yeah the LTTE totally ruined this area it probably the worst disaster that occured in SL for 30years so it will take time to rebuild.. MORON!!

    mike Thursday, 21 July 2011 01:21 PM
