The United National Party (UNP) will meet within the next two days to decide on the names of the UNP members to be included on the national list to enter Parliament, UNP Deputy Leader Karu Jayasuriya told Daily Mirror online.

Jayasuriya said that so many party members who had lost their place at the recent General Elections were seeking a slot on the national list and the party will decide on the names over the next two days.

Jayasuriya also said there was no truth in reports of at least four Deputy Leaders being appointed for the party.  (Daily Mirror online)

The Candidates who lost by vote means they were rejected by people. S the candidates who contested and lost has no claim on National Slots. The UPFA has adopted the same resolution.
But I am sure Ranil as usual will blunder screw this issue as well

How many national list seats will the UNP get? 5,6?

    Saturday, 17 April 2010 04:36 PM

party need a huge reform. It is better if Ranil steps down as the leader and give it to sajith. But he must remain as a main advisor to the party.

Please do not appoint anyone who has lost the election as they have been rejected by the people. The National List is named before the elections.

Need of the hour is not appointing deputy leaders even if that story is wrong but to change the top and bring a more people friendly leader while retaining the current leader at an advisory level

Nominate the most capable, not stooges. Others please stand down for the sake of the Country and the Party.

So it is clear that rejection at the polls by the voters is no obstacle, after all, for losers to find a way to the Parliament through the so called National List. Democracy at work, Sri Lankan style!
