The United National Party (UNP) today said Minister of Transport Kumara Welgama and Minister of Health Maithripala Sirisena should follow the example set by South Korean Prime Minister and resign from their posts as the sectors they have been put in charge are in shambles.

UNP official spokesman and Member of Parliament Gayantha Karunatilleke told a news briefing that the two ministers should follow the South Korean Prime Minister who resigned his post following the capsizing of a passenger boat recently.

Mr. Karunatilleke said Minister Sirisena is responsible for the crippling of the health sector as a result of the trade union action launched by the nurses as he had done nothing to resolve the issue. He said the situation is same when it comes to the ministry of transport for failing to look into the technical needs of the railway service. These things would have been avoided had the ministers taken a serious note on the issues pertaining to the respective sectors they are in charge,” the UNP spokesman said.

He also said the government had begun to tear off the pages of Mahinda Chinthana one by one. He said the page which is about the safeguarding of Sri Lankan culture is being torn off by allowing Casinos while the page which talks of maintaining law and order was torn off with the attack on the UNP MPs who visited the Mattala airport and Magampura harbour and by failing to carryout a proper investigation on the incident.(Yohan Perera & Sanath Desmond)

Kiri Gamarala Monday, 05 May 2014 12:10 PM

Resigning? This word was removed from the English Dictionaries used in Sri Lanka on the day the 18th Amendment to the Constitution was passed in the parliament.

Kiris Baba Amaray Tuesday, 06 May 2014 04:09 AM

Hay man, first tell Ranil to resign and then Welgama & Sirisena will resign.

    Sirisena Monday, 05 May 2014 12:16 PM

I will resign the same day Ranil resigns.

Kiris Baba Amaray Tuesday, 06 May 2014 04:14 AM
Ranil never resigned when Gonawala Sunil raped a girl .
Correct, the rule should be equal to UNP & UPFA.

Kiris Baba Amaray Tuesday, 06 May 2014 04:17 AM

Oh don't talk about the Pope of SriLanka !!!! Our PM is one of the Pure Citizen who follows Lord Buddha's doctrines.

Kiris Baba Amaray Tuesday, 06 May 2014 04:21 AM

Yes Gayantha, your Leader is just a good for nothing vessel who wanted to sit in the Opposition seat as a Leader and enjoy all the best Luxury comforts which the Prime Minister enjoys. If you feel UNP will flourish, then you must get to gether and throw Ranil out.

Kiris Baba Amaray Tuesday, 06 May 2014 04:25 AM

Good challenge, why not Gayantha pass this message to your puppy leader, this is like MGR Vs Veerappa (Old Indian film stars)

Kiris Baba Amaray Tuesday, 06 May 2014 04:26 AM

Ranil will only resign when he is kept in the casket.

Kiris Baba Amaray Tuesday, 06 May 2014 04:29 AM

Gayantha when your Leader Ranil returns from USA, tell him to resign first and show an example to others. May be thereafter the word of "Resign" will will be included in our SriLankan Dictionary.

    Devaka Tuesday, 06 May 2014 04:36 AM

The party leader should be the first to resign having lost over 25 elections
