The United National Party (UNP) is taking steps to remove four senior members who have decided to vote with the government for the constitutional reforms next week in Parliament, UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayaka told Daily Mirror online.

Attanayaka added that the decision to remove any UNP members who voted with the government was arrived at the recent UNP Working Committee meeting.

As a result, four of the UNP’s senior members Abdul Cader, Lakshman Seneviratne, Earl Gunasekara and Manusha Nanayakkara will be removed from the party over the next few days.

Attanayaka further said that disciplinary action will be taken against the UNP MPs who will go against the party wishes. (Daily Mirror online)

Feel so sad of the giant UNP. The single largest democratic party in this country. Even though it is too late RW should consider forming a National Govt which will allow some breathing space for UNP.

Only RW will remain in the party and still he will be the sole leader. Good luck Ranil for the good work done.

    Labby Saturday, 04 September 2010 05:25 AM

Are those four UNP members supporting the government in a bid to punish Ranil Wickremasinghe? Little do they realize that by their actions they are punishing the entire nation.

    Bala Saturday, 04 September 2010 04:34 AM

If they are against Ranil - why take us to a dictatorship by voting for destruction of liberty.. Cutting the nose to spite the face but not a solution. Better they leave the party immediately.
