UNP MP Ajith Perera today denied claims made by President Mahinda Rajapaksa that the group of visiting UNP parliamentarians had ridiculed the development taking place in Hambantota as they left Port.

The five parliamentarians Eran Wickramaratne, Ajith Manapperuma, Ajith P.Perera, R. Yogarajan, Nalin Bandara Jayamaha and UNP Leadership Council Chairman Karu Jayasuriya expressed their views about the attack in Hambantota.

The parliamentarian said the President had expressed the view that the parliamentarians had angered the public by suggesting the Hambantota Port was a pool and the Mattala Airport was fit to be a museum.

“No UNP parliamentarian ever said that and we did not make such a comment either. We said the projects were being conducted in a fraudulent manner and that it would be conducted in a transparent manner under the UNP,” Perera said. (Darshana Sanjeewa)

It is shame on us, the President trying to justify what his thugs did. It seems like a well planned operation and they never took into account the journalists.

Even if it was called a pool & a museum, do they have the right to behave like animals. Did H.E give the orders to carry out this attack?

So, should any ridicule be treated with hooliganism? Isn't it the freedom of expression, a right assured by the constitution of this country for its citizens? After all they are Parliamentarians appointed by people, not just a bunch of street urchins!.

We have new roads, airport and port thanks to the President. UNP can't see that and deny that. So the Public has the right to get angry and hit those UNP members who can't see the said development of this country and its benefits. The issue is even I can't see the real benefit of those developments. Please don't hit me.

    randy Monday, 21 April 2014 03:33 AM

In democracy anybody can criticize as well as appreciate. But nobody can take the law into their hands. Above all nothing wrong in ridiculing a white elephant.
