Now that a semblance of action is visible with the performance in the Municipal Elections although the 'Reformists' did not perform as much as they would want to and a Rally has been successfully staged, of course withe the full backing of all the party members, why not plan ahead and consolidate the party solidarity than to reviver the leadership issue? Please remember that loosing election is not the sole responsibility of the party leader alone and that all elections in our country have been lost by UNPdue to fraud, deception and robbery.
shane Saturday, 10 December 2011 05:15 AM
If people note voting for Ranil why we want Ranil as the leader any more? If john is so suitable for the leadership y didnt Ranil even not make john the deputy leader? y junior like Sajith got that post? so its good Jhon juts be silent because people can think he is mad now.
Asanka Saturday, 10 December 2011 05:27 AM
Lets all sign the petition at wh.gov/jmh for the release of former Army Commander
Mohamed Saturday, 10 December 2011 05:53 AM
So john is suitable? No body is suitable except Sajith. He is a well qualified good leader. He has people support than other leaders. Because he has done so much to the people....People only know that. So people this country is waiting his leadership to be in UNP. NOt anyone else
Mohamed Saturday, 10 December 2011 05:56 AM
Well said Adil
Mohamed Saturday, 10 December 2011 06:01 AM
But still Sajith is more suitable
Labby Saturday, 10 December 2011 06:14 AM
Ok, so now where's Sajith in all these equations? Afterall wasn't it Sajith Premadasa who was initially making a big hue and cry about HIS ability to lead the party? Has he chickened out?
patriot Saturday, 10 December 2011 06:33 AM
I still dont know why karu took 18 MP to the govt side but came back empty handed...
mwta Saturday, 10 December 2011 07:26 AM
John is kuliyata cahinawa (coughing for money)
w.w.E. Kariyawasam Saturday, 10 December 2011 08:23 AM
John and Ranil are both unefficiant politicians. They dont have vision on the country or religion. Now we need a leader who is uncrupted and clean person like Karu to lead the country.Other are Halparuwos. Even present Govt. too
Hazem Saturday, 10 December 2011 04:55 AM
No!!! Karu Jayasuriya is unworthy for the leadership role since he has had crossed over t Government ., this diqualifies him better!
Sajith is the best option.
sam Saturday, 10 December 2011 08:56 AM
John goes kade for Ranil
upul Saturday, 10 December 2011 08:56 AM
Hi ! Dont allow UNP to labelled as senior citizens party, john.
Tilina Saturday, 10 December 2011 09:58 AM
Ane John
Sue Saturday, 10 December 2011 09:51 AM
Many people may be qualified but will they be acceptable to the people? For instance, no UNPer would want Mr. Amaratunga as the party leader while Karu Jayasuriya is far more suitable than RW who even though qualified and intelligent is not liked by the public.
Ruwan Ferdinandez Saturday, 10 December 2011 12:31 PM
Quite possibly, John also believes Ranil is better than John himself.
AU Saturday, 10 December 2011 12:40 PM
Ranil doesn't have the tempo of the common masses.HE MUST SIDE TRACK TO A BETTER ACCEPTIBLE LEADER
leel Saturday, 10 December 2011 12:51 PM
At any election 40 - 50% of UNP votes are not casting because of Ranil. It will farther go down if Ranil stays as the leader.
Leslie Saturday, 10 December 2011 12:54 PM
Irrespective of what John Amaratunge says, anyone else other than Ranil being elected Leader of the Party at this juncture would only further divide the Party.
trevin Saturday, 10 December 2011 02:50 AM
Who cares??????
adhil Nizam Friday, 09 December 2011 06:05 PM
Very ture Aristotle - however the point is this. When Karu came back to the UNP, Ranil appointed Karu once again as deputy leader. Why? Becuase ranil felt that Karu is suitable for the job. Ranil did NOT give John the Deputy leader position. Why? Because ranil did NOT think john is suitable for it.
lankan Friday, 09 December 2011 09:07 PM
It seems that at present there is no opposition in the country. They are fighting like kids for leadership. What a shame !
ampare son Friday, 09 December 2011 09:18 PM
dont think thatway.
Srimal Pelpoa Saturday, 10 December 2011 12:32 AM
John Amaratunge , You are never going to be a credible leader to head the UNP.. Your accepting overseas trips handed over like lolies to you by the President shows where your real loyalty to the party lies. You are no better than all the Other former disgusting turncourts that rule the roost and get the perks of office. We will see someday soon that you will follow your former turncourts and accept a manufactured Ministry to suit yur purse . You guys are the frauds that are the bane of our country..Democracy and fairplay my foot.
Loku Duwa Saturday, 10 December 2011 01:24 AM
This poor Country needs, intelligent, well educated leader of clean record who doesn't steal poor man's cent & doesn't allow others to steal as well. In a Country where the media is spine-less (try to attack only harmless people) and no proper governance a person like that sorts coming to power is very remote
Game kolla Saturday, 10 December 2011 01:24 AM
We all know who John Amarathunge is. The best person for the leadership is Karu.
ismail usa Saturday, 10 December 2011 01:54 AM
for god sake help the party to reform with a good leader fr urself see how the party is dying day by day and so many have already left the party and gone pl john dont ruin the party ur not a sutable leader evrery one knows and you are too old and even u cant speak propely or walk pl stop talking about others
Ziyard Saturday, 10 December 2011 01:54 AM
Political THANHAWA. This is from the birth to death for their own benefits not for the country's or the people's benefits. for this all happens the voters brainless in this country.
GM Saturday, 10 December 2011 02:44 AM
enough is enough ..... too many changes given to Ranil ... now try someone else ... Karu or sajith ... atleast Buddika will do a better job !!!
Aristotle Friday, 09 December 2011 05:46 PM
If John feels that Karu is not suitable he should contest for party leadership.
Manik Saturday, 10 December 2011 03:00 AM
Another cross over?
Nicky Karunarathna Saturday, 10 December 2011 02:55 AM
Karu should not have challange his leader if he has given promisary not that he not going do so. where is principals boasting about so much? Man whithout principals can be a leader? He left the UNP and came back without clothes nowhere to go asking for shelter like provebial camal. Anyway actual posture also he looks like camel!
Ravindu Saturday, 10 December 2011 03:06 AM
We do not have anything to say except SHAME.
Dayan Saturday, 10 December 2011 03:17 AM
John is looking forward to be the UNP a grate party is in opposition for ever.
Sammy Saturday, 10 December 2011 03:15 AM
High time John retired from politics.
willows Saturday, 10 December 2011 03:37 AM
Aristotle and Nizam 101% correct.
Leon Jayatunge Saturday, 10 December 2011 04:51 AM
This man is further messing up the situation. They all forgot their responsibilities to serve the people. Currently opposition is not serving the countryman. People are suffering from the current regime. Now at least better for John to play with his grand children and allow others to work for the country.
