A 55-year-old university lecture was today arrested by the National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) on charges of luring an underage child via the Facebook, officials said.

A NCPA spokesman told Daily Mirror online that an official pretending to be a fifteen-year-old had created a Facebook account and chatted with the lecturer for over a month.

During the several chats the suspect was alleged to have discussed sexual matters with the decoy. Later the suspect had wanted to meet the child and the meeting place was somewhere near the NCPA office in Pitakotte this morning.

However, on his arrival the suspect was arrested by NCPA officials and was produced before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court today.

Investigations into the incident are being carried out by the NCPA OIC B.W. Bopitigoda under the instructions of the NCPA chairman Anoma Dissanayake.

The lecturer is a resident of Matara. Three others have also been arrested on similar charges during the first three months of this year. One was a estate supervisor, the other a computer consultant and the third a surveyor residing in Panadura. (Sanath Desmond)

It is questionable whether justice has been served here. If he had previous allegations on similar behavior it is fine. Unless this method can be used to settle personal grudges as well, and very much questionable since he has not actually committed any crime but gotten deceived by a stunt of CPA
