British Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office Hugo Swire held discussions with representatives of several NGOs on Monday to discuss the follow-up to the UNHRC resolution on Sri Lanka passed in Geneva last month.

“Had useful meeting with NGOs today on follow-up to #UNHRC resolution passed on human rights abuses in #SriLanka,” Swire tweeted.

The UK co-sponsored a US-led resolution at the UN Human Rights Council this year which establishes an international investigation into allegations of violations and abuses of international law on both sides of the conflict in Sri Lanka, and calls on the Sri Lankan government to make progress on accountability, reconciliation and human rights.

Well, let's hope SL can survive economic sanctions and travel bans.

Give the NGOs the money and the resources and send them to Sri Lanka. They will have week end parties at subsidised rates, go about in luxury vehicles to exotic resorts to enjoy, in the absence of expatriates the locals indulge in all frauds known to man that the NGOs do not investigate for the fear that the donors will not give funds next time. The staff depend on locals to do research and report on what the donors want and as usual they are doctored by the locals and portray SL as monster. Many expatriates do not know the local language or the culture and do not attempt to learn as most of the time they are stoned with donor money.j via DM iPad app
