The Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) will launch two more luxury buses on the Southern Expressway from Elpitiya to Maharagama today to meet the growing demand for the bus service, the SLTB said yesterday.
SLTB Chairman M.D. Bandusena said the new bus service will commence from the Elpitiya main bus stand to Kurundugahahethekma from where it will lead to the Southern Expressway and proceed to Maharagama.
The bus services from Elpitiya to Maharagama will begin at 6am and 7am and the buses from Maharagama to Elpitiya will be at 4.40pm and 6pm respectively.“The demand for the luxury bus service on the Southern Expressway has been so high that the Minister has requested that we increase these services,” Bandusena said.
“There will be more buses on the highway depending on the passenger demand,” he said.

The bus service is good. However the issue of tickets and the information on the schedules are badly organized. It was horrible at Maharagama, All done in a small "Takaran" shed. Galle was a little better. Still unable to reserve a seat from Maharagama for a trio from Galle to Maharagama. It is time we do it right that do things half done.

There is no debate that the govt. must look after the interests of the people who use public transport. However we can only hope that E-01 will not be yet another highway where errant bus drivers dominate and create "Terror on Roads". Discipline matters above anything else which is very much lacking in our society.

Please don't fill the E1 with buses and make it a nightmare for other drivers.

Excellent idea. But please don't allow private buses on the expressways anywhere any in Sri Lanka.

Also alert national security whenever these buses hit the E-01 so that all other vehicles can make a safe exit.
