Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mahinda Balasuriya said that troublemakers at polling booths and counting stations will be severely dealt with the assistance of the three armed forces and the Special Task Force (STF).

Each police station will have additional security personnel to assist the police to control such situations, he said.

The Elections Commissioner has given the police instructions to place high security to places where such situations can erupt. (SD)

    Thursday, 08 April 2010 12:04 AM

'Anei bole kata wahagena petthakata wela hitapang.'

    Wednesday, 07 April 2010 07:26 PM

'Tough measures' for what? To change the results or to create problems and take advantage of the situation? 'Baduth Hamuduruwange, naduth hamuduruwange' ...

    Tuesday, 06 April 2010 07:46 PM

The IGP will certainly take 'tough' action against the opposition.

    Tuesday, 06 April 2010 06:51 PM

It is both laughable and a waste of time, for the IGP to make such statements. "Troublemakers" is a ralative term and could be interpreted in many contexts.

    Tuesday, 06 April 2010 06:04 PM

    Thanks for the joke man!

    Tuesday, 06 April 2010 06:02 PM

Has there been any single day on which the Sri Lankan police, have fulfilled their duties, without any partiality?

    Tuesday, 06 April 2010 03:40 PM

You are certainly not second to the EC, in issuing statements like these ...

    Tuesday, 06 April 2010 11:39 AM

Hope the cops will be fair.

    Tuesday, 06 April 2010 01:16 PM

what a Joke !!!! better to stay away from the Poll.

    Tuesday, 06 April 2010 12:33 PM

    WOW,Look Who is Talking,

    Tuesday, 06 April 2010 12:12 PM

What he means is that opposition people will be labelled troublemakers and dealt with as per present practice.

    Tuesday, 06 April 2010 11:53 AM

Opposition - Better be aware, IGP is ready to use the iron-fist to maintain law and order. For the ruling party, you will be scot-free but inform us well ahead to pave the way.

    Tuesday, 06 April 2010 11:52 AM
