A delegation of MPs from the Tamil National Alliance met Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi today to seek India's intervention in accelerating rehabilitation of displaced Tamils in Sri Lanka.

"We have requested the intervention of India and the Chief Minister for the welfare of Tamils," R Sambandan, who led the delegation of Tamil National Alliance (TNA) MPs, told reporters after the meeting with Karunanidhi.

Sambandan alleged that there was little progress in the rehabilitation measures announced by Sri Lankan government for Tamils after the war against the LTTE last year.

The delegation also welcomed the DMK chief's suggestion to Centre for deputing a special envoy to Sri Lanka for assessing progress made in rehabilitation measures.

Further, Sambandan called for a political solution to the ethnic problem in the island nation. He also alleged militarisation and settling of Sinhala in Tamil-dominated areas in Sri Lanka. (Indian Express)

TNA Must learn to deal with GOSL and not with K'Nidhi. Who is K'Nidhi to Sri Lankans ? He is C.M.T.N.State and has no relation to any of Lankan Provinces.

TNA is trying to stir up trouble for their political gains...These people must be stopped.....

Tamils are in sinhala area not because of state funded settlwement, they use thier own hard earn money to buy houses, the same can happen any where in this country, sinhalese or muslims can come to jaffna and buy property. tamils have no objection. But most of you guys comparing this with state funded house building programmes, it is pathietic.

and when it come to india, TNA have no option other than requesting india, because the war ended more than an year ago and that time, srilankan state propagated that it will settle all the people within six month and start meassures for national reconciliation. but so far nothing have happned and the same situation remains in the north except some reopenning of roads.

unless and until srilankan government take solid meassure to win over tamil, srilanka wont have a unitary state mentally, may be possible physically(tamils are always going to feel like 2nd class citizens)

    RajasH Tuesday, 20 July 2010 11:15 AM

    that is a great idea.

    RajasH Tuesday, 20 July 2010 10:55 AM

why are you relying on WW and JHU to fast why dont you fast in front Indian Embassy instead and become a National Hero, I mean national disgrace.

    RajasH Tuesday, 20 July 2010 10:38 AM

why not...please come and develop NE at the moment only Sinhala military is living there

    INDIKA Tuesday, 20 July 2010 10:22 AM

Don't talk as a fool. That's as a security measure for both, Tamils and Soldiers as well. As there were suicide bombers, LTTE hardcore carders and their intellegence personel as well. So not to let those people to escape into other areas, just put all of them within one fence till identified.
Also it's safe for tamils to be there, as LTTE can't come inside and do anything to them as they are guarded by army,

    INDIKA Tuesday, 20 July 2010 10:15 AM

Are we to chase Tamils from Sinhala dominated areas, Mr. Sambandan ???

    RajasH Tuesday, 20 July 2010 10:03 AM

any one can live any where, but there must be jobs, infrastructure and economic development, recreational facilities, etc. All economic and industrial investment are only in the South. I doubt that any one would like to uproot from the South go and live in Mullaithivu for example. why dont you take the lead and go and live any where in the NE and find a job and bring up your children go and watch India v Sri Lanka.

Gayan Samarasekara Tuesday, 20 July 2010 08:12 AM

When it comes to India, isn't it outsiders acting against the sovereignty of the country....? Are the only outsiders EU, USA and Banki Moon? Time to think twice, wisely: For the attention of the "Gallery" who votes for vehement speeches..

    RajasH Tuesday, 20 July 2010 09:52 AM

There is a difference between Tamil Dominated area and Tamil Homeland. North and East are Tamil Homeland. East is not Tamil dominated area any more due to Sinhala colonisation . North soon will be colonised too. However NE will still remain Tamil Homeland. Wellawetta in Colombo may be Tamil dominated but not a traditional Tamil homeland.
Under unified Sri Lanka you can still have traditional homelands. Like Kandy is a traditional homeland of Kandyan Sinhalease...so on...

    Sanath R Tuesday, 20 July 2010 09:45 AM

Quite agree with Gayan. Being a sovereign state nobody should be able interfere in internal affairs and it should apply to India as well. We have been giving too much in to India, and no wonder they are dictating terms to us, either directly or indirectly. Wonder why WW & JHU are silent on Indian role?

    Roshan Tuesday, 20 July 2010 09:37 AM

Everybody can live anywhere in the Island. but it should not been done by the GOV. in mass scale.

    gunda Tuesday, 20 July 2010 09:04 AM

redeem Tamils from LTTE clutches and put them in detention behind barbed wires, you mean?

    bugger Tuesday, 20 July 2010 09:04 AM

Whats up?someone is meeting someone, but no one to meet Wimal.

Bird Eye Tuesday, 20 July 2010 08:53 AM

Tamils can live in any other area of the country, so why shouldn't others?

    Sleepy Tuesday, 20 July 2010 08:43 AM

Last time didn't Sambandan ask help to save LTTE?

kasun liyanage Tuesday, 20 July 2010 08:30 AM

there should not be any are called "Tamil Dominated Area" if SL as an unified country. SL constitution has guaranteed people inhabitance of their choice as well as other legislation enacted subsequently.
i feel that grounds are being created for another war to transpire
it is Sinhalese soldiers who sacrificed their lives to redeem Tamils from LTTE clutches therefor its their inherent right to occupy where they rescued.
