A 61-year-old man was killed while his son and daughter were injured when a 51-year-old man -- whose daughter was kidnapped and sexually abused by the son -- stabbed them while they were leaving the Hulftsdorp Magistrate’s Court after the deceased’s son was granted bail.

The 25-year-old son of the deceased had befriended the 5-year-old man’s daughter through Facebook and had asked her to meet him at Kotahena.

He is then alleged to have kidnapped and molested her and taken photographs of her nude inside a hotel room.

The girl had complained to the Kotahena police on August 19 and the youth was arrested and produced in Court today.

The three people rushed to the Colombo National Hospital but 61-year-old P. Jyaseelan had died soon after admission.

The Cinnamon Gardens police arrested Muttaih Selvaraja soon after the incident. (Supun Dias)

same incident happened years back in my village and the accused killed 4 ppl. he was released after 5 years imprisonment based on good behavior. the reason for him to give only 5 years imprisonment was less evidence to prove his intention.
anyway, government or the forces should not be blamed for such incidents. why there is an increase of individual crimes? is it the government does it? today the society is with full of jealousy. most people are behind money. Education is not standard. No based education is in SL. TV stations promote violence from the age 3. What do you think of BEN TEN? look at a kid who continuously watch ben ten. he imitates every action of ben ten and attack all children around. We are partly responsible for these. We can never pass the ball to government or forces and let the responsibility go.

When murders can happen next to the courts too, no wonder, Upul Jayasuriya of the Bar Association is asking for security.

agree with certain points, but the government is directly responsible for the behavior of the people, why there is a ministry for law & order?

Kossa, you have hit the nail on the head. Unless Police and the Justice System do not gear up and take prompt action against offenders the aggrieved parties are not going to wait till justice is meted out. This is a very good example of a father whose daughter had been raped was not in a mood to bear for donkeys ages to punish the culprit.

Small country with a large police and defense force, curtailed the world's ruthless terrorist organisation but unable to stop the day to day crimes shows the pathetic plight and insecurity situation in the country. Drug peddling increasing in quantity, rapes, crimes and corruption, murders .... God save us!

Correct action but killed the wrong person. They should have killed the son not the father.
