Angry crowds set a medical laboratory and a house in the Boraketiya area in Karandeniya on fire today. The laboratory is owned by the main suspect arrested in connection with the killing of Dr. Prasad Jayasinghe, which took place on September 29 in front of his dispensary in Thalgashandiya.

The angry residents disregarded the security deployed in the area and set the laboratory and house on fire. According to reports more than 5000 people had stormed into the building and property belonging to the main suspect.

In Elpitiya, the house and a shop owned by the second suspect who is an Army Captain and his family was also set on fire by angry crowds.

Another group of people had gone to the Balapitiya Magistrate court premises on information that the two suspects were to be produced and had urged lawyers not to give them legal assistance for the case.

They had also staged a protest outside the Boraketiya Government Hospital in which Dr. Jayasinghe was practicing at the time of his death condemning his killing. The Special Task Force (STF) and the Army was deployed to the area to bring the situation under control.

Two suspects, an owner of a medical laboratory and an Army Captain were arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) over the weekend along with the weapon used for the killing of Dr. Prasad Jayasinghe in Thalgashandiya in Karandeniya on September 29.

Dr. Prasad Jayasinghe was gunned down when he was about to cross the road to get into his car around 10.00pm after finishing work at his private dispensary.

He was widely respected by the public for his remarkable service. (Supun Dias and Janaka De Silva)

The authorities must know that people take law into their hands when the authorities do not administer the law and order of the country fairly.

This is getting worse to worst...we have seen sevral times people themselves take actions against criminals...main reason is people loss their faith on judical system...they know anyhow any criminals can break-through law with help of currpted politicians

This is good lesson for others. Court with take years and years to punish these suspects. Ordinary people know about that and sometimes say lack of evidence and released. The best way to punish destroy all assets belongs to them until courts get dissections.

This type of situations to be controlled before it gets out of hand.
Govt. is there to make the law and enforce it with proper authority by law enforcement officers..
Today what is hapenning is few Law makers & some of the public has taken control the enforcement of law to their hand and law enforcement officers are to just look up and wait.

We as a country should follow the correct path in both making & enforcement of the law
