Ten policemen attached to the Colombo North Anti Vice Squad, including the OIC were arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) over a death of a person called Gamini also known as ‘Kalu Gamini’ on September 7 which was reported at Nagalagam Street in Grandpass.
The policemen had gone to the area on information that the victim had possession of a weapon and he was about to sell the firearm to another person.
During the raid, a confrontation had taken place between the victim and the policemen leaving him dead, the police said.
Police spokesman Ajith Rohana said that following the incident the investigations were taken over by the CID. Among the arrested are a police sergeant and eight police constables.
The suspects were produced before the Colombo Magistrate Courts and were remanded till November 11. On November 11 the suspects will be produced before an identification parade, SP Ajith Rohana said. (Supun Dias)
