Temple parley to resolve UNP crisis

United National Party (UNP) Leader Ranil Wickremesighe will meet UNP parliamentarians Karu Jayasuriya and Sajith Premadasa at the Dhammakithyarama Kollupitiya (Polwatte temple) for a meeting facilitated by Venerable Maduluwawe Sobhitha Thera.

The meeting to be held on Friday will decide on the party’s future and help iron out differences.

Party sources said several Buddhist monks attached to the Eksath Bikkhu Peramuna are also expected to participate in this meeting.

This move comes in the wake of a suggestion by some party seniors that a supreme executive council headed by Mr. Jayasuriya be set up to set the course for the party’s future. It had been suggested that Mr. Premadasa and MP Ravi Karunanayake should also be included in this council.

This suggestion was reportedly discussed by Mr. Wickremesinghe when he met the Ven. Girambe Ananda Thera in Anuradhapura earlier this week. Venerable Ananda Thera is expected to participate at Friday’s discussions.

The decision to hold the meeting had been made despite the critical statement by Mr. Premadasa when he requested certain party elements not to destroy the party even if they destroyed him.

“You can kill me and destroy me but don’t destroy the UNP which I love so much,” he said in the statement in response to the suggestion that he should contest as the party’s chief ministerial candidate for the Southern Province. (Yohan Perera)

also it is happy to read that very capable leaders of the party such as ravi karunanayaka is in right place.

only unsuitable thing is karu jayasooriya,who is a party traitor jumped to slfp and came back once they rejected him as a stupid.

it is better party re organise to the best and all get together to defeat this un democratic,violent and corrupt regime and make the way for the people to have democratic life with peace,prosperity and justice under unp rule.

Bakeer marker should be the party secretary. There should be a few more changes. Do it now or all will leave the UNP.

If Ranil Wickramasinghe contests the presidential election in America, he will be the president of United States of America. If he contests in England, he will be the prime minister of England. Unfortunately he cannot win elections in Sri Lanka.
However I cannot think any candidates other than Ranil Wickramasinghe.

I think Ranil is good brainy, respected by world leaders, cool headed and a leader.

This is not Ranil's problem. I do not believe in politics as we should earn & eat. The parties will not give us anything and they only take 100% of the country eco.

Just go back to 2002/2004 during Ranil leadership the country gained many aids, economically and helped by other countries.

The Pradesiya Saba members most of whom were young people reported have engaged in many unlawful activities during the recent past. The UNP leader should be selected by the people of this country.
