The female teacher who was shot by a man at the Siyambalanduwa Maha Vidyalaya died a short while ago.

An unidentified man has committed suicide at the Siyambalanduwa Maha Vidyalaya after shooting a female teacher this morning. Police Spokesman SP Prishantha Jayakody said that investigations are being carried out by the police.

The teacher who has been identified as Lakshika Damayanthi, a resident of Kiwulayaya had been shot twice. The shooting had taken place at about 9.30 a.m. yesterday. The man had visited the school and had requested permission to speak to the teacher. He had shot himself after shooting the while speaking to her, police said.

The man who has been identified Pathum, was a resident in Badulla and is married with two children. The Police said that they suspect that the incident occurred as a result of a love affair.

The injured teacher was admitted to the Siyambalanduwa hospital and was transferred to the Moneragala hospital afterwards. (LP)

shanthi, read the news first. why do you think that this teacher has done some bad thing. some crazy people out there thinks that if they love someone, that other person also should love them back whether they like it or not. So you can not decide by this news whether this teacher has done something wrong. So don;t insult teachers before knowing fact.

The man is unstable and doesn't have the tools in his brain to deal with rejection, imagine if everyone shot a person each time they were heat broken?!

Majority of teachers are tiring hard to do their best for the students. but please do not blame teachers on this issue. From government side they do not get proper guidance & support. I personally know that lot of teachers have not been granted their increments yet.

@shanthi: What do you mean "teachers have to be more example and also to be more diciplined? They should not cry out in pain when they are shot and they should not run away when a killer is trying to shoot them ? Is it the fault of the teacher that this man shot her? Do you mean something like that ? Just read the news item carefully - does it say any bad part about the teacher ?

This guy was married with two children. He shot another women and took his life without thinking about the future of his own children. This is a utter selfish guy. He seemed to be wanted the best of both worlds, but can't face the reality. Shame on this man. The teacher should be commended for her guts. She had the strength to refuse this man (if this episode was about a love triangle). It hurts everyone involved, my heart goes out for this lady, now she has to face lots of brick bats from judgmental people in our society.

Why do you automatically assume that the teacher has behaved immorally? Is it because the teacher is a female? Thus far, the only thing we seem to know is that the man behaved immorally. Maybe she rejected the man's advances because she is married or committed to another person? We don't know and we should not speculate and cast blame.
