Tamil political parties have drafted a memorandum to be submitted to President Mahinda Rajapaksa which also calls for the implementation of the 13th Amendment as well a political solution to the Tamil issue.

With the war now over and the LTTE also eliminated the Tamil parties have also urged President Mahinda Rajapaksa to release or expedite cases against Tamil political prisoners who are in jails around the country.

The Tamil parties which are to submit the memorandum includes the Tamil Makkal Viduthalai Pullikal (TMVP) led by Eastern Province Chief Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan, the EPDP led by Minister Douglas Devananda and the TULF led by V. Ananda Sangaree.

TMVP spokesman Azad Maulana said that the Tamil parties met in Batticaloa over the weekend and agreed on the memorandum to be submitted to the President and also decided to invite the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) for future talks.

The Tamil parties have been meeting over the past few weeks but the TNA has so far not attended the talks, which was initiated by EPDP leader Minister Douglas Devananda. (Daily Mirror online)

The initiations are NOT from the Tamil parties but from the Tamil Parties controlled by the GOSL.

Without a united front, Tamil parties cannot achieve a single demand. History has proved that..

why dont they ask only equal rights for the northern and eastern provinces for every one and drop the tamil word from their political demands rather go for equal rights for north eastern people.

In Sri lanka there are no political prisoners. Only the Criminals and the Terrorists are there. At least now these people can talk freely as LTTE is no more there as a force.

I agree with the previous comment. What we need is equal rights for the people in the entire island irrespective ot the race. Why only North and East?
Can someone please define the problem to have a political solution. If you say that the cost of living and the unemployment rate is very high, then I agree. But then it is common to many people living all over the island.

Kuthbuddin...why should they drop the "tamil" word and be called the north eastern people? they are tamils after all... and i dont think it is a demand to ask for equal rights shouldnt we all have eequal rights no matter who you are!!!!

    dagobert Monday, 16 August 2010 04:45 AM

    We the people say.... NO

Ravi Daniel Monday, 16 August 2010 09:11 AM

Why? Is there anything wrong in calling them Tamils. I say that all Tamil speaking people should have EQUAL rights all over the Island, not only in the North & East.

Ravi Daniel Monday, 16 August 2010 09:13 AM

'We the people' Who are they?
