The Colombo Fraud Investigations Bureau yesterday filed charge sheets against a tailor shop owner who had allegedly misappropriated money belonging to police officers attached to the Ministerial Security Division to the tune of Rs.500,000 with the promise of supplying sports uniforms.

In a complaint to the police, the Chief Security Officer of Youth Affairs Minister Dullas Alahapperuma alleged that he paid Rs.500,000 to the tailor shop owner Shaminda Wimalasekara of Boralesgamuwa for the purpose of sewing sports uniforms.

The complainant Chief Inspector Aruna Sri Suriyabandara further alleged that though the suspect had promised to supply the sports uniforms within a certain time period, he had failed to do so.

Meanwhile, it transpired in court that the suspect had made a payment of Rs.200,000 to the complainant party. Defence Counsel Jayantha Dias Nanayakkara appearing for the suspect said his client was accepting the liability to pay the rest of the amount and further informed court that he would pay it on an installments basis.

Having considered the submissions, Colombo Fort Magistrate Kanishka Wijeratne postponed the case for March 28. (Lakmal Sooriyagoda)
