Education Minister Bandula Gunawardana said the Education Commission would come up with a range of recommendations with a mechanism to improve educational and natural abilities of a student notwithstanding whether he or she was successful in the GCE O/L or GCE A/L examination.

It will be a student centred system but not examinations centred system from 2013, Minister Gunawardana stressed.

Addressing the prize giving ceremony at the Kelaniya Dharmaloka Vidyalaya, Minister Gunawardana said the changes were introduced in accordance with the recommendations of the Education Commission that wound up its deliberations recently.

There would be a complete overhaul of the national education system including drastic changes introduced to the GCE O/L syllabus from 2013, he said.(Sandun A. Jayasekera)

A waste of time or blind leading the blind - only money spent.

This is something that should have been done a long time ago. When we were at University in Sri Lanka, the accepted method of lecturing was to give questions and answers, which had to be faithfully reproduced, to obtain good marks. It was only when I entered a University abroad that I realised that we could think for ourselves and even write against what the lecturer had read out, if it was well thought out and presented logically
