Suspect detained in alleged sexual abuse case

Bambalapitiya Police today obtained a 48-hour detention order from the Colombo Magistrate Court to detain for further questioning, a suspect who was arrested for alleged sexual abuse on a German woman.

Police said the suspect would be produced in the Courts tomorrow after the detention period is over.

A German woman, who is reported to have been under the influence of liquor at a night club in a star class hotel in Colombo, had been taken to a house in Bambalapitiya where she was allegedly abused by the suspect last Sunday.

When she woke up in the morning she had found that she was unclothed. Later she had been dropped by the suspect at the housing complex where her friends stayed in Mount Lavinia.

It was reported that the German woman was in the country to follow a course in English at the University of Colombo and was staying with four other German youth at a housing complex in the Mt Lavinia area. (Lahiru Pothmulla & Sanath Desmond)
