The Colombo High Court today issued summons on 20 witnesses to the ‘white flag’ case involving former Army Chief General Sarath Fonseka and will begin daily hearings into the case from 27 September.

When the case was taken up for hearing today the High Court judge ordered that witness number one to twenty appear in Court to testify in the case where it was alleged that General Fonseka had claimed in an interview that unarmed LTTE cadres were shot dead by the army when they surrendered with white flags during the final stages of the war.

The judge also instructed the relevant officials to ensure the right of General Fonseka to his Parliamentary privileges. (Daily Mirror online)

No way the outcome would be known to anyone except the rulers. Finally the Respected High Court Judges have decided to inquire into this. However if this is to fool Ban Ki Moon the Sri Lanka Govt will face its waterloo very soon.

    Deepal Thursday, 29 July 2010 06:38 AM

20 witnesses? Wow!! The Govt is really doing well in collecting witnesses.

It will be really funny if SF says yes to the allegations.

    SW Thursday, 29 July 2010 09:12 AM

We have already big surplus of villains, why try to make a villain out of the only hero we have ?

Calistus Jayatilleke Thursday, 29 July 2010 09:26 AM

They are spending public money lavishly on these fictitious cases as if it is their grand father's property.

    rudi Thursday, 29 July 2010 10:06 AM

As I see it, it is the government that needs to prove that Fonseka said what he is accused of and not the otherway around. The onus is on the government. Also, looks like the HC is speeding up this process to give a verdict, probably before the UN panel can give theirs; any guesses as to why? Why isn't the HC so expeditious about all the other cases that are filed?

    Dilan Friday, 30 July 2010 06:11 AM

Really...Dont forget the Disgrace he bought to Sri Lanka with his Novel "White Flags"....

    Barbarian Thursday, 29 July 2010 05:38 AM

Why waste state funds when we all know the verdict that is going to eventuate.

    mohammed Thursday, 29 July 2010 05:48 AM

Please do not waste our hard earning money for useless things. We know that the final verdict will be minimum of 5 years in prison in order to keep him mum. Finalize the matter and use this money for any development purpose.
