A A A

The man who is staging a protest on top of a tall post near the Horton Place round-about is threatening to commit suicide unless President Mahinda Rajapaksa himself comes and meets him to address his grievances.

Negotiators from the Fire Brigade are currently speaking with the protestor and are making attempts to lure him down. The protestor is refusing to come down and says he will jump or take poison if any attempt is made to take him down by force. (Daily Mirror online)

as if he has no other work

    ajith Tuesday, 14 September 2010 06:41 AM

    Dear DM,
    Your video clip is welcome.
The only problem encountered was that the letters of the posters were not clear.
Would have been ideal if the camera crew was provided with a better effective camera.

    Wasantha Tuesday, 14 September 2010 06:49 AM

That is due to the bad precedence created by MR offering glass of water to WW. This type of things should have not been encouraged. If MR comes today as requested, from next day onwards we could see similar dramas regularly. Do not panic, he would never die, otherwise he should have not worn a protected helmet.

    entreprenur Tuesday, 14 September 2010 06:59 AM

Aney modaya Valentine is next year not today these days people has gone to this level.

The only way for you to acheive your goal is to slide towards a high power electric cable you will receive the shock of your life LOL

I guess in a banana republic people are already going bananas

    ajith Tuesday, 14 September 2010 06:59 AM

Now this has become a fashion.
The father of the fashion show is none other than modawansa!!.

    thusi Tuesday, 14 September 2010 07:21 AM

Let him suicide MR has better things to do...

    Managala Tuesday, 14 September 2010 07:23 AM

    kassa Tuesday, 14 September 2010 07:31 AM

    rif Tuesday, 14 September 2010 07:46 AM

    ravi Tuesday, 14 September 2010 08:03 AM

    saman Tuesday, 14 September 2010 08:10 AM

Definitely, whwn you die, that will also go to Ranil Wikramasinhe's account.

    a voter Tuesday, 14 September 2010 06:33 AM

Does he thinks that he is Wimal?
    We have enough jokers here.

Above the crowd Tuesday, 14 September 2010 09:13 AM

Can't he work as an air Cleaner from up above?

    Gamaya Tuesday, 14 September 2010 09:50 AM

Why dont you give a try.

    Thomas Tuesday, 14 September 2010 10:59 AM

He should have been allowed to remain there for ever without wasting public money by using Fire Brigade cranes etc.

    slmaluwa Tuesday, 14 September 2010 11:03 AM

    I second you!

    Malli Tuesday, 14 September 2010 11:31 AM

Without washroom facilities he must be polluting air instead -

Podi Guru Tuesday, 14 September 2010 11:37 AM

The majority of the previous comments communicate such a nastiness that it seems the commentators have overlooked that there is a human being on top of that pole. If you find out it is a political stunt, then have at it; but first try to save this person's life. Where is your compassion?

    Rohantha Tuesday, 14 September 2010 11:39 AM

That's the best one for the day, Malinda!

Lanka puthra Tuesday, 14 September 2010 11:50 AM

i dont know what his grievances are but this creates a dangerous precedence.

Does this mean every one of us needs to climb a tower just to get attention...

    Dheen Tuesday, 14 September 2010 11:58 AM

The famous doctor is the ideal person to negotiate.

    FEROZE Tuesday, 14 September 2010 12:55 PM

hey guys,I was passing Town hall this afternoon and saw this man on top of the post and there were few cushioned mattresses on bottom of the post.

    Appuhamy Tuesday, 14 September 2010 05:10 AM

I too have lots of grievances. Will he come, If I too get up on my roof top ?

    DHA Tuesday, 14 September 2010 03:47 AM

Phew....what a situation this man has put the president into.....!!!

    Nookie Tuesday, 14 September 2010 03:52 AM

MR - at least address this! you cant neglect this one!

    adel Tuesday, 14 September 2010 03:56 AM

The best tactic is to ignore the guy, as staying up there since 06am is a rather tough ask. Further the traffic jam he is causing is costing a lot of money and time. Now the President has to attend to this too....... I thought we are going to be a HUB........

Percy Mandawala Tuesday, 14 September 2010 04:05 AM

Our country is full of dramas

citizen silva Tuesday, 14 September 2010 04:06 AM

not only him the whole country will have to commit suicide

    rohan Tuesday, 14 September 2010 04:14 AM

Grab the fellow some how with out letting him to kill him self and send him to jail for years or simply listen to his grevences and see what matters to him to that extent and give solutions. Simply two options depends on the richness of the decision maker's heart.

    MW Tuesday, 14 September 2010 04:17 AM

    Another pre planned drama ???

Tharaka Chanaka Tuesday, 14 September 2010 04:23 AM

This guy's blood is much more "Greener" than RW's.

Kalu Arachchi Tuesday, 14 September 2010 05:05 AM

very shortly half of the country will go up on poles for their greiviences.

    faizalsamsu Tuesday, 14 September 2010 05:09 AM

true! this is what will happen in the end...

    bash Tuesday, 14 September 2010 03:46 AM

Have they identified him yet, could this be that Samurdhi worker

    ajith Tuesday, 14 September 2010 05:11 AM

Anyway even if your demands are met you will be jailed for attempting to commit suicide. You will suffer more than your instant death.

    Afi Tuesday, 14 September 2010 05:15 AM

I hope I was on the hoarding rather than this man not bcse of the president but bcse of my wife.

    warusha Tuesday, 14 September 2010 05:17 AM

let him to jump.....he is wearig helmet... dont worry

    anura Tuesday, 14 September 2010 05:17 AM

Everyone should just ignore him. A person genuinely attempting suicide by jumping off does not a) wear a helmet when he wants to die by jumping from a height b) carry poison when attempting to die from a height

malinda seneviratne Tuesday, 14 September 2010 05:44 AM

people are wondering if it is ranil who's up there.....(ranil, after all, has been refusing to 'step down' for years!!!).

    suvero Tuesday, 14 September 2010 05:59 AM

I think it is funny that he has decided to climb the same tower that Mahinda used to erect a massive 'cut-out' of himself as part of the presidential election campaign.'Promises made- Promises delivered' is perhaps the subtext.

    Kottoruwa Tuesday, 14 September 2010 06:06 AM

why is that unwanted tower there in the first place, looks like the whole thing was preplanned i wont be surprised if MR shows up to complete the movie.

    thusith Tuesday, 14 September 2010 06:13 AM

Must be another UNPer, pleading President not to take any more UNP MPs to government.

    Rajitha Tuesday, 14 September 2010 06:30 AM

perhaps a UNPear desperately wanting to get in the government, who had already been informed by president that he's not interested in taking any more MPs as he's already got more than 2/3rd majority

    KAN Tuesday, 14 September 2010 06:33 AM

Good on you !!! did Wimal pay you for this or was it Mervin, the two biggest drama kings in SL at the moment. The country has surely gone to the dogs. Shame on you politician !!! Now Mahinda will come and listen to this man's made up story. Shameless people.
