A clash had been reported a shortwhile ago between the Police and Inter University Students Federation (IUSF), who earlier forcibly entered the premises of the Higher Education ministry in Town Hall after breaking its gates.

Sources said that after escaping from the Ministry premises, students had come to the Viharamaha Devi Park. The Students started to attack pelting stones on Police, who used water canon to disperse the protestors.

At least 20 persons, including 12 policemen and eight students, were hospitalised following clash, police said.Police also took 21 students into custody for questioning, Police Spokesman Prishantha Jayakody said.
