President Mahinda Rajapaksa asked the people of the country to stay alert on to what was happening in the outside world in order to protect the good name of the Country.

“You should be alert to what is happening in the outside world and stand up to protect the good name of the country,” the President said at a function at Temple Trees today.

He also said that currently there is an international campaign against Sri Lanka by certain channels in order to tarnish the image of the country. “So always be alert to protect the country,” the President said.

Mr. President, please get capable persons like Maj. Gen. Shavendra to man our foreign missions. They will take care of channel 4's, BBC's and Al- Jazzira 's and we will have nothing to worry about.

    jo Friday, 24 June 2011 03:37 AM

Which means, we have to keep our mouth shut what ever happens... nothing to worry for anything... increase of price, corruption, miss use of power, wasting of people's money, thugs, under world menace. etc... for anything all should keep quite and look the other way...then thinks will be fine....

Sri Lankan Friday, 24 June 2011 04:11 AM

Nodanithi where do you live in this world? Surely not in Sri Lanaka. Do you know the meaning of the word "democratic" ? And for your information now in Sri Lanka even you can win at any election if you are one that MR and group wants to win. In furure all elections will be won by UPFA and even within UPFA and opposition those who fall in line with the above cowd only. So try your luck too.

    lal Friday, 24 June 2011 09:46 AM

Pity, the UNP fellows can be bought so easily. The price tag is coming down all the time.

Calistus Jayatilleke Friday, 24 June 2011 04:11 AM

Dinithi: you have got your arithmetic wrong. Go to the back of the class. The UPFA never got a two-third majority legally through elections. The so called two-thirds they now have is after having bought over MPs with threats, inducements and what not. That is not called Democracy : which is another subject you need to learn when you are back in the class.

    TMA Friday, 24 June 2011 09:47 AM

Yes it is. Get the PR of Iran & C how it is. Besides only US has sanctioned Iran. Europe is trading with them. I won't B a bearing 4 U, but it'll B the poor & working ppl who'll bear. Russia & China is not gonna buy our exports either

What a joke? Words of wisdom to divert attention from the current crisis. This is the sort of words the fools need to hear in this land. Wonder what happened to the MODAWANSA these days?!? Pretty quiet isn't he?!?

The good name of our country has been stuffed up by your fawninng jokers that have no idea of diplomacy. . These are your unqualified yes men that you appoint as diplomats,. Well our poor country should bare the consequences..

    Zen Friday, 24 June 2011 09:57 AM

Rather than talking nonsense about the good name of the country, the govt should address the issues concerned.

    Ojama Friday, 24 June 2011 07:37 PM

    LinMadiya Thursday, 23 June 2011 05:40 PM

If people know about outside world Sri Lanka will be certainly a better place. But it will be bad for politicians.

    Dinithi Thursday, 23 June 2011 05:46 PM

Go where and give power to whom? He is the democratically elected president of the country and his party has two thrids majority in the parliament.

    Dinithi Thursday, 23 June 2011 05:47 PM

    How to set the example?

    Dinithi Thursday, 23 June 2011 05:55 PM

Safeguard our country's president, the leadership and the people. The last time we did not safeguard the country's leadership was in 1815 and the British got the country for 130 years.

    SrilankanAmerican Thursday, 23 June 2011 05:55 PM

    He must respect democracy first.
