The CID team that had been sent by the IGP to investigate the death of a 28-year-old fisherman in Chilaw during a protest yesterday had recorded statements from both sides although no arrests have been made regarding the incident.
A team from the Government Analysts Department is also in the area to conduct investigations into the shooting and the series of events that led to it.
The CID team was deployed to Chilaw by Inspector General of Police (IGP) N.K. Illangakone and additional security had been given to the Chilaw police station and the Chilaw SP office.
Religious leaders had promised law enforcement officers that residents will not take part in activities which will lead to any violence. (SD)
